Discuss whats the point in the Electricians Chat - Off Topic Chat area at ElectriciansForums.net

So that shows that he can be a hypocrite Murdoch (I haven't seen what he wrote so I dont know how bad it was) but it shouldn't take the attention away from his point on this thread....

However.. MDJ has made me think a bit about how all this talk does take the focus away from the 'lots of positive threads' as well.

I still think we should either ignore silly posts or ask them for more information and suggest they offer solutions themselves....then we get somewhere!
Loads of positive threads and loads of good information here, the search function works and there are some cracking lads with a good sense of humour here, even the team are good lads, when we get cheesed off it is easy to forget the good things and only think of the negative, theres always something being posted which is useful and we all learn every day, not a bad place really and I have not been drinking at all tonight either lol

Look now I have access to the 3000 club I have seen you swear on the forum, so its only fair the rules apply to everyone :p

Sssshhhh looks like I have 2 choices here either edit loads of my swearing which could take hours or revoke your access to the club which would take 10 seconds :)

it is in the 3000 forum now fella

Interesting, I hadn't realised such a thing existed. At my current rate of posting, I might get entry to this place in 14.7 years' time. A prolific poster, Sarz11 should be there by the end of July.

Sorry, forgot to show my workings:

Found first post in the new members introductions (it was pretty easy to spot), says "3 weeks ago". 425 posts = ~142 posts/week (a 20/day habit). 3000-425=2575. 2575/142=18.1 weeks from now. Approx 4 and a bit weeks/month, that's roughly 4 and a half months. We're half way through March, so till the end of March that'll take care of the decimals, then (this next bit I did on my fingers) we've got April, May, June and July. :)

Good for you Iamelectric for having the gutts to start this thread.

I also cant understand why some members instantly get so aggressive with 'silly' OP's. I would think there are 2 options:

1. Dont reply
2. Explain to the OP that they need to give more information and also offer a few suggestions themselves.

I think the 'unhelpful/uneccessary' comments from certain members are because they like to 'look good' to other members, I guess they're showing off like you did back in the class room at school. But also I think some are genuinely frustrated by the 'silly' questions, but then you should just respond with points (1) or (2).

Some of the 'bullys' are clearly very experienced electricians and could offer a huge amount to the new members, but I don't think that is why they are on the site.

Strange how you seem to ignore some of the aggressive posts from the OP's when they get no replies (Ignored) or don't get an answer or the help they want

I think you correctly identify frustration as the retorts to the silly questions but this is supposed to be a forum for professional electricians not clairvoyants, it's been said before that this site does have some of the banter and ridicule (no swear filters on a site) that you get on a real world working site and if people are offended they may be trying to enter the wrong industry.
I see the major problem as being that people are becoming too lazy to help themselves they are expecting that a ÂŁxxxx's course is going to give them everything yet they appear to not be able to use an index in a book or it's modern equivalent Google to expand their knowledge and then use the forum to help with advice on how to interpret the regs or whether their pricing is in the right ballpark

this is it..

it becomes patently clear very early on in some of these threads that the author has either no bloody idea what he is doing...

or is too lazy/slack to go look it up in BS7671...

Or Luckins or Electrika

TBH I'm getting to the point of moving on as this forum content is not stimulating the brain cells as the new posts are making it more like a Samaritans forum for wannabe sparks that try to justify why they shouldn't get knocked back may be it's a result of this nanny state we are now living in where people live in an ivory tower world where any form of criticism is banned or is labelled as bullying, racism, aggression etc
