Discuss Why we and our customers need Part P scheme in the Business Related area at ElectriciansForums.net

WHY was this thread started after reading it a bit it looks like the OP is waitinjg to hit us with sales pitch ?

This is all part of filling the skills shortage, yes? Skills shortage my big pimpled spotty bum. It just another way for the get rich quick boys to make a fast buck in training, schemes and actually becoming a DI. The difference between a DI and an electrician is like the difference between a St John ambulance driver and a neurosurgeon. Dont give me all that tosh about being highly skilled at house bashing, its what apprentices used to do for their first year so thay could learn the basics. Thats all it is, the basics of electrical work, thats why you learn it 7 weeks.

It seems to be our industry under the microscope, tels suggestion is the best really,if i were to go up to 100 people in the street and ask them what niceic or elecsa was maybe 5/10 -100 would know,if you asked corgi/gas safe 90-100.

Hello All

I have read a lot on this site with regards to Part P and Part P scheme.

And you still carry on to post a load of tosh

Having a Part P qualification gives the electrician or Domestic installer the theory and knowledge to safely install, under this country's building regulations, any electrial job be it installing a new plug socket or an entire re-wire.

Have we all being doing it wrong before Part P

Customers should choose Part P regulated/qualified persons because they can be sure that their electrical jobs are being solved in such a way that will not cause problems or future problems for their home.

Those under Part P shemes should give the customer confidence in their electrician/domestic installer that notfiable work shall be notified to building regulations and will not have a detrimental effect on thier housing insurance if it is not (e.g New installation of a CU NOT being certificated and notified to building regs when it damn well should be and then later catching fire).

Obviously experience counts for nothing and only a Part P qualification rules

We should be fullly supporting all aspects of Part P and making sure our customers/potential customers know that they need a Part P qualified person working in their home for their own safety, and not continually slagging Part P off and effectively de-regulating ourselves.

Customers would not have anyone working on their gas if that person/company was not Gas Safe, we have to get that very same messege across about Part P. Slaggiing Part P off does not and will not help keep the customers safe but it will continue to let the rougue traders trade and take money from the decent, honest Part P schemed persons pocket.

If the governing bodies are not doing the jobs to which they have been designed for then we should take it straight to the Secretary of State(?).

The governing bodis should be taking those to court who have a NICEIC sticker on their van bought off ebay not just putting them on their 'name and shame wall' Ooooooooohhhh.

You either govern or you don't. It will only take one un-registered person from each county to be taken to court to get the messege that Customers NEED a Part P shemed person and rouge traders have no place in electrics.

There are plenty of rogue traders who are Part P registered and turn in shoddy work. If you suggesting that properly qualified sparks with many years experience are rogue traders because they choose not to join this ill thought out scheme then I would suggest you are grossly out of order. The sums of money paid to scheme providers and LABC's are just another tax burden on the trade and customers as somebody ends up paying

part p is a a joke,it allows what ever trade to install in my house when i cant, tho i have bought a new db which im going to fit myself and im going to pull the main fuse while i do it.im quite happy to attend any court in the land who says im not qualified to do it without part p..

Got to wholehearted agree with this stance. The sooner it is Part P R.I.P. the better
