i was trying to install 2 switched fused conenection units on a ring circuit. at the start of the job i cut through a live wire which tripped the whole db. i connected the fcus ok. then put a socket plate on another one which had been wired ready. when i turned the board on the socket with the fcus has no power anymore this is the one which i origanlly cut through and the new socket has power but every time i test between earth it trips the whole board again... anoyone any ideas?

It sounds to me like your a bit of a danger to yourself and your family!! Do yourself & family a favour, and get a qualified Electrician in, to rectify your cock-up.

Anyone that cuts through a cable without first checking the circuit is dead/isolated is a dammed fool. Maybe if you ask nicely, one of our members that are close to you will be able to help you out in this matter. For gods sake don't go diving in to this yourself!!!

well this is the thing peterdaniels i tested the socket and it was dead but when i cut through it the light went off. there was some one ironing to in another room so i dont know if that was just coincidence and overloaded and caused it to trip. as i wasnt using isnulated snips just some crops so im not sure it was live when i cut it

well if it was the live one or dead it is now connected back in a socket. i dont think this was the case but im not sure? even on the upstairs ring if i test between earth and neutral or earth and live it trips the board out

Joking apart.. What are you testing with? and do you know how to use it and interpret the results?

its on an rcd isnt it? even if isolated (the line in the mcb) neutral to earth shorts when dead can still trip an rcd

(i tripped a whole school out before testing end to end resistance on a ring out in the field rather than at the board after safely isolating at the board and tripped because i touched the neutra,l to earth)

3 core wouldn't, but 3 core and earth should I think. The live from the UH4 could feed both the brown and grey of the valve.
