I tried to get to my taxi
The man in a tracksuit attacks me
He said that he saw it before me
And wants to get things a bit gory
Girls scrabble round with no clothes on
To borrow a pound for a condom
If it wasn't for chip fat they'd be frozen
they're not very sensible
I predict a riot
I predict a riot
I predict a riot
I predict a riot

Kaiser Cheifs -- I predict a riot

Well, my son turned ten just the other day.
He said, 'Thanks for the ball, Dad. Come on, let's play.
Could you teach me to throw?'
I said, 'Not today. I got a lot to do.'
He said, 'That's okay.' And he walked away and he smiled and he said,
'You know, I'm gonna be like him, yeah.
You know I'm gonna be like him.'

Well, he came from college just the other day,
So much like a man I just had to say,
'I'm proud of you. Could you sit for a while?'
He shook his head and he said with a smile,
'What I'd really like, Dad, is to borrow the car keys.
See you later. Can I have them please ?'

I've long since retired, my son's moved away.
I called him up just the other day.
'I'd like to see you, if you don't mind.'
He said, 'I'd love to, Dad, if I could finnnnd the time.
You see my new job's a hassle and the kids have the flu,
But it's sure nice talkin' to you, Dad.
It's been sure nice talkin' to you.'
And as I hung up the phone it occurred to me,
He'd grown up just like me.
My boy was just like me.

Cat's in the cradle. Guns n Roses

Don't you mean Ugly Kid Joe??

John's got brewers droop he gets intimidated by the dirty pigeons

Exercise

Blur -- Parklife

Buying bread from a man in Brussels
He was six foot four and full of muscles
I said, "Do you speak-a my language?"
He just smiled and gave me a Vegemite sandwich
And he said

"I come from a land down under
Where beer does flow and men sunder
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover"

Men at work -- Down Under

Cats in the cradle was a hit in 1974 for Harry Chapin. Cover versions by Ugly kid Joe, guns and roses and johny cash. The g&r version is available on YouTube mate.

Here's one that has stuck in my mind since my uni days;

The Cure – Disintegration

Oh I miss the kiss of treachery
The shameless kiss of vanity
The soft and the black and the velvety
Up tight against the side of me
And mouth and eyes and heart all bleed
And run in thickening streams of greed
As bit by bit it starts the need
To just let go
My party piece

Oh I miss the kiss of treachery
The aching kiss before I feed
The stench of a love for a younger meat
And the sound that it makes
When it cuts in deep
The holding up on bended knees
The addiction of duplicities
As bit by bit it starts the need
To just let go
My party piece

But I never said I would stay to the end
So I leave you with babies and hoping for frequency
Screaming like this in the hope of the secrecy
Screaming me over and over and over
I leave you with photographs
Pictures of trickery
Stains on the carpet and
Stains on the scenery
Songs about happiness murmured in dreams
When we both us knew
How the ending would be…

So it’s all come back round to breaking apart again
Breaking apart like I’m made up of glass again
Making it up behind my back again
Holding my breath for the fear of sleep again
Holding it up behind my head again
Cut in deep to the heart of the bone again
Round and round and round
And it’s coming apart again
Over and over and over

Now that I know that I’m breaking to pieces
I’ll pull out my heart
And I’ll feed it to anyone
Crying for sympathy
Crocodiles cry for the love of the crowd
And the three cheers from everyone
Dropping through sky
Through the glass of the roof
Through the roof of your mouth
Through the mouth of your eye
Through the eye of the needle
It’s easier for me to get closer to heaven
Than ever feel whole again

I never said I would stay to the end
I knew I would leave you with babies and everything
Screaming like this in the hole of sincerity
Screaming me over and over and over
I leave you with photographs
Pictures of trickery
Stains on the carpet and
Stains on the memory
Songs about happiness murmured in dreams
When we both of us knew
How the end always is

How the end always is…

I knew I shouldn't have started posting in this thread, it's going to be an addiction.

Here's another landmark track from my younger days;

CHELSEA HOTEL NO. 2 - LEONARD COHEN
I remember you well in the Chelsea Hotel,
you were talking so brave and so sweet,
giving me head on the unmade bed,
while the limousines wait in the street.
Those were the reasons and that was New York,
we were running for the money and the flesh.
And that was called love for the workers in song
probably still is for those of them left.

Ah but you got away, didn't you babe,
you just turned your back on the crowd,
you got away, I never once heard you say,
I need you, I don't need you,
I need you, I don't need you
and all of that jiving around.

I remember you well in the Chelsea Hotel
you were famous, your heart was a legend.
You told me again you preferred handsome men
but for me you would make an exception.
And clenching your fist for the ones like us
who are oppressed by the figures of beauty,
you fixed yourself, you said, "Well never mind,
we are ugly but we have the music."

And then you got away, didn't you babe...

I don't mean to suggest that I loved you the best,
I can't keep track of each fallen robin.
I remember you well in the Chelsea Hotel,
that's all, I don't even think of you that often.

It's a hoax Paul, the 'GnR' versions on YouTube are actually just audio from Ugly Kid Joe with a background pic of GnR weird!

Probably due to copyright issues. Youtube has a vigorous 'take-down' policy if rights holders complian.

You could be right, no other logical reason.

I thought i'd found a GnR studio recording that I don't already own, I should have known better with my obsessions for rock music, Arsenal and all things electrical! ;)

Hello shoes....
I'm sorry but I'm gonna have to stand on you again.

Oh wow!! What a horrible dream I just had!!

I looked to the sky
Where an elephant’s eye
Was looking at me
From a bubblegum tree
And all that I knew
The hole in my shoe
Was letting in water (letting in water)

Oh no, what a really heavy bummer.

I walked through a field
That just wasnt real
Where 100 tin soldiers
Would shoot at my shoulder
And all that I knew
The hole in my shoe
Was letting in water (letting in water)

Oh no. What's happening??

(I climbed on the back of a giant albatross
Which flew through a crack in the cloud
To a place where happiness reigned all year round
Where music played ever so loudly)

I started to fall
And suddenly woke
And the dew on the grass
It stuck to my coat
And all that I knew
The hole in my shoe
Was letting in water (letting in water)

Aaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!
Ooohhhh. What an amazingly beautiful vibe
I think I'm gonna get in the bath with my shoes on
'Cos like it won't make any difference like
Oh wow. I feel like I'm just like floating
I must be a pretty amazing guy right.....to have dreamed all this
Maybe it's because I ate all that cheese I found under the cooker

Oh no hang on
Oohhh I must be back in reality again
Oh no look at all that washing up
HEAVY!!
Oh no the plughole's bunged up with corn flakes
I wonder why they don't make wholemeal corn flakes

Aaaaaaggghhhhhhhhhhhh!!!
Hey. I just fell down the plughole

Hello Neil
Hey. Who are you??
I'm the soggy potato from down under the sink
Ugh. What's that smell. Have you farted??
Don't be stupid Neil, everybody knows potatos can't fart

I wanna take some dirty pictures of you
I wanna take some dirty pictures of you
As I'm peering through the shutter
I can feel my heart a flutter
And the lens is getting steamy
As the room is getting seamy
Watch out for my reflex as I'm giving you the bird

Dirty pictures turn me on
They give me strictures but I have to keep on
Taking pictures dirty pictures
I get my kicks up in the attic from a Kodak Instamatic

I wanna take some dirty pictures of you
The dirtier the better only filthy will do
As I rig up my umbrellas
And the props are getting hotter
The actions getting frantic
As you going through your antics

Head up, leg up, chest out,
can you what don't be absurd

Dirty pictures turn me on
They give me strictures but I have to keep on
Taking pictures dirty pictures
I get my kicks up in the attic from a Kodak Instamatic

Dirty, dirty, dirty, dirty pictures

Dirty pictures turn me on
They give me strictures but I have to keep on
Taking pictures dirty pictures
They give me strictures but I have to keep on
Taking pictures dirty pictures
They give me strictures but I have to keep on
Taking pictures dirty pictures
I get my kicks up in the attic

Dirty pictures!

Hi Guys,

One of my favourites is:

'Send in your skeletons,
sing as their bones go marching in again,
They need you buried deep,
The secrets that you keep are ever ready'

Best wishes

Rex
