Hi Baazab, make sure you use the supplied little plastic shrouds that go over your test leads when doing any live testing very important for preventing interesting flashes and bangs and would probs mean a fail in a practical exam.

Your tester will read trip if you momentarilly lose contact with the earth connection , which on the meggar1553 is easily done if you testing at a lighting pendent because those leads are about 4 inches to short if you don't use steps and if your doing a no trip rcd test on a lighting circuit it almost becomes a two man job !

i got a set of those as well off ebay a few weeks ago - really fancied the yellow/orange socket and see ones but they were £16 dearer. bound to lose those dark lightmate ones in the bottom of my bag

I've got the 1553 it seduced me with the two lead options and Blue Tooth, doubt I will ever use the BT though it seems a ball ache, it has taken me ages to get used to the Meggar the dials aren't the best or clearest, I had Kewteck singles before but the RCD tester though claiming to be non- trip doesn't now work with modern RCD's as I think the new RCD's are more dc sensitive and I think the old Kewteck used to send a dc pulse down to annoy the RCD long enough to do the test, but not sure on that

Just spray them mate with line marker...Cheap as chips..

what's line marker?

suppose i could wrap some bright tape around them though maybe different colours will identify them quicker as to which is which.

It's the cheap as chips spray paint contractors use to mark out for the diggers to excavate for supplies

Mft 1553 zs problem

Hi. I have the same problem with my mft 1553 on site. When doing a 3 lead test on the no trip finction it just appears "ert" after 5 seconds. I tried mi tester on various properties and the same thing happens. The probes are ok and connected fine and the circuits come out good on the dead testing. I'm shure there is a promlem with the tester. Please advise.
