Help unclogging an old cement sink plumbing advice

Help unclogging an old cement sink Hi all,

I have an old school cement laundry sink which is clogged. I unscrewed the pipe underneath to try to clear it, and I was able to get some crud out of there. But it seems the majority of the blockage is higher up, in a section concealed within the cement where the two drains get combined into one. I've tried to see if the strainers can be removed with needle nose pliers, but they seem stuck fast. We've tried drain cleaning chemicals, but it only...

Have I hired a cowboy? plumbing advice

Have I hired a cowboy? We have a leak in a central heating pipe under the tiled floor in our downstairs bathroom. The water was seeping up through the floor. I called a plumber and he lifted the tiles and dug to reveal the pipe and find the leak. He has repaired the leak using compression joints (also repaired larger 28mm pipe which he punctured when digging), which he says are more reliable than soldering, but we have had constant leaks from each pipe every time the water is turned back on...

Cleaning a Magnetic Filter without an isolation valve plumbing advice

Cleaning a Magnetic Filter without an isolation valve Hello All,

We have a Vaillant boiler, it has an advanced protection kit fitted that gives it a 10 year warranty. My understanding is that this is essentially a magnetic filter that captures all the deposits before the enter the boiler and contaminate it, thus invalidating your warranty.

I have a Vaillant Engineer yesterday to do it's first service and he didn't actually open up the filter to clean it out, I questioned him about it...

Mystery Tap plumbing advice

Mystery Tap I have a quarter turn on/off lever tap that I want to replace as it's dripping. I have no clue how to remove it having taken the cap off. Have a look at the attached pic. Any clues? The shower is maybe 20 years old, and is a traditional brass exposed valve type.

Heating bypass plumbing advice

Heating bypass

I have what appears to be a bypass in the heating circuit. I have a combi boiler and thermostats on all radiators except one on my front hallway. Is this bypass needed? And if not does it cause any issues? I have one radiator on the top floor where I struggle to get heat despite all my efforts to balance radiators.

Ideal Standard Dual Flush Cistern Overflow Problem plumbing advice

Ideal Standard Dual Flush Cistern Overflow Problem Any help greatly appreciated.

It appears that every time i flush the toilet the cistern fills up then overflows back in to the toilet. This can last for 2 minutes or is continually running. I have replaced the cistern dual valve as it was very loose and parts had broken off it and it wasn't a snug fit.

That said, the situation is the same with the water now still overflowing. It appears to be a problem with the syphon. Do i replace it or...

How to access taps behind a P shaped shower bath plumbing advice

How to access taps behind a P shaped shower bath I'm about to install a P shaped shower bath into a small bathroom. However I've noticed that with the bath in place it's not possible to reach under the bath to the pre drilled tap holes. Because of the circular shape there's also no line of sight to these either making it very hard or impossible to reach with a spanner.

So if I were to install the bath like this I'm wondering if it's possible to remove the taps without ripping out the whole...

Danfoss - heating water Hi All,
I hope you are well. I have Danfoss CP715Si controller and when I try to heat water the boiler does not kick in.
When I select Hot Water to ON or press +1HR button to turn it on for one hour the red light comes up on the controller but the boiler does not kick in.
It does kick in when I turn the heating on.
What could be the problem?
Thanks

well suction negative pressure plumbing advice

well suction negative pressure My pump is lifting water about 20 to 25 ft through 1-1/4" pipe at about 800' above sea level. Can anyone calculate the negative pressure at the pump for me? I'm just not that bright. I've recently installed a check valve near the pump and am having some issues with the system sucking air in and losing prime. Just curious to know what numbers I'm up against.

Noisy main cold water pipe, my plumber hasn't heard this before. plumbing advice

Noisy main cold water pipe, my plumber hasn't heard this before. Hi Folks,

Would like to cast the net far and wide to try and get some resolution to this problem. The mains water coming into the property via a 15mm copper pipe, I have a Worcester Bosch Heatslave 15/19 around 16 yrs old to which the mains goes into - just above the boiler our plumber fitted a pressure valve to limit the pressure going into the boiler as we kept blowing the flow meter in the boiler every couple of years and...

Shower drain cover - can I get something that will fit? plumbing advice

Shower drain cover - can I get something that will fit? The drain cover in my shower cubicle is flaking and discoloured. I was hoping to remove the centre section and replace it with one of those slightly-domed covers, concealing the outer ring. Unfortunately it seems they all come with a 42mm spigot attached, and the hole is just 40mm. I don’t want to turn this into a major project because the shower cubicle itself will need replacing in a year or two. Any ideas? TIA!

CRM SOFTWARE - your opinions on the best few brands please plumbing advice

CRM SOFTWARE - your opinions on the best few brands please Hi Everyone,

I currently use E-Works CRM software and feels it does have good customer support & good value for money but I do find it a bit slow to use, to do anything on it seems long winded and more complicated than it needs to be. It does have very good trackers with dash cam though which has come in useful several times.

Also find it glitches often and our outfield staff find it hard to use and it doesn't work offline very...

Worcester Bosch Greenstar Regular Boiler - Always ON plumbing advice

Worcester Bosch Greenstar Regular Boiler - Always ON Morning all,

I've noticed very recently that our Worcester Bosch Boiler is constantly ON and making a fair bit of noise.

The flame is not on, but certainly sounds like the pump is running, AND the water temperature does seem high considering we've not had any demand for it for a good 48hrs or so. Boiler is a 40cdi Greenstar Regular, Setup CH only and an unvented cylinder.

I recorded a video to help describe what i'm seeing/hearing, that...

Firebird Olympic 90 plumbing advice

Firebird Olympic 90 Hi.
Recently fitted a new capacitor on a old riello burner with a manual fan. It sounded brand-new and lasted for a few months working good.
The other day just stopped working when turned on it's a faint buzz then off? Would this be the motor seized? It is a 20 year old burner. Thanks

Intermittent bad smell plumbing advice

Intermittent bad smell Hi

I have an intermittent bad smell that's really hard to pin down, I was wondering if I could get your thoughts on it.

I can go months without smelling that sulphur smell and then one day it kicks in. Sometimes its really faint, others its strong and lingers. I never know when it will stop, sometimes days, others weeks at a time. It seems to only be linked to hot water usage upstairs (1 bathroom with a shower and sink tap too). And its strongest in the bedroom...

Grundfos MQ3-45 - Weird Noise plumbing advice

Grundfos MQ3-45 - Weird Noise I have a Grundfos MQ3-45 feeding my domestic water from a ground level tank (filled from an RO system from the well). The pump is about 4 years old, with normal-heavy household use. Today it started making a bit of an awful noise - see the attached video. I disassembled the hydraulic end of it to see if there was anything odd there, but it was all normal.

Any ideas? I would like to avoid spending $1500 on a new pump, since I think these should last a bit longer...

Can anyone help me identify these bathroom taps please? plumbing advice

Can anyone help me identify these bathroom taps please? Hi
Can anyone identify the make and model of these taps please?

We have one dripping bathroom sink tap but the plumber we had couldn't find a way to undo the tap / take it apart to get to the cartridge.

So he's saying the only way to fix it is to replace the sink taps which would mean also replacing the bath taps. Crazy!

Many Thanks
