I have a Triton Lewis rail riser that came with a bar mixer.

This screenshot from a Triton video shows how the bottom bracket of the rail is installed - the screw goes through the vertical rail riser to secure it in place. The hole in the bracket is a bit larger than the diameter of the rail - the grey trims fill in that gap.

However, tightening the fixing screw pushes the rail against the (flimsy) trims. Securing this bottom bracket to the wall - but without...

So the stopcock outside my workshop was leaking at the spindle when I went to turn it off. Managed to get the rusted red handwheel off the valve, wringing the retaining nut, just as expected (WD40 sprayed on the night before didn't work). I used a scrap gatevalve when doing the original plumbing, rather than a proper stopcock that takes a key. I couldn't get the whole top body out of the valve, I think these are bonded, but got the spindle nut off and packed around the spindle with PTFE...

 

I have an unvented water cylinder. It looks like it’s leaking underneath. There is water slowly seeping out from around the base. I can’t find any leaks around pipework or connections. Please see photos.



Is it likely to be the metal outer skin that has rusted or is there some inner skin that goes?



Is my only option to pull out the tank and have a look underneath?

Hi All,

We have a Viessmann 222-F BT2B Combi Storage Boiler - it was installed in 2019 so about 6 years old. A Magnaclean Professional 2 Filter was fitted at time of boiler installation. A Power Flush was also done & a water softener fitted.

The boiler has been serviced every year without fail & the last service was about 3+ weeks ago. At time of servicing the Magnaclean filter is checked, cleaned & new Adey MC1+ Inhibitor always added.

We have 10 Radiators in the house - all double panel...

I have recently bought a house which is 17 years old.
There was a small leak from one of the radiators So I took the pipe off and drained the radiator and the water was black/brown.

I took the radiator off and flushed it out with a hose pipe out the garden but it's got me thinking and I now want to clean the whole system the best I can.

Just looking for some advice really on what the best way to do this is as I have never done it before.

Shall I take each radiator off one by one and...

 

My central heating system is over 40 years old. A mixture of 15 and 22mm pipework to and from the boiler (which is 15 years old), while the rads are served via microbore pipe from the two distribution trees hidden away under the back bedroom floor.
A few weeks ago, the pipework became blocked and fortunately a local plumber managed to clear it. He gave me some instruction to clean the system, which I've followed closely:
1 - Refill the system with plain water, run for a day, then drain -...

 

With these sorts of bottle traps what specific fixing would you use to ensure a tight leak resistant seal?

Looking to install a pre-filter before a water softener, and would appreciate any thoughts or ideas on what to buy.

I'd like to have a 1" thread in- and out-bound, as my house inbound is in 28mm copper, and the in-bound to the water softener is 1".

Ive got a Vaillant boiler with megaflow tank, 18 months old, from new the pressure drops so it cuts out, every few months, now twice in past month. Vaillant have said there's nothing wrong with it. A week later it does it again.

Any ideas?

My residential block has 5 floors above the ground floor, the 5th being the top floor (loft under the sloping roof) where one side has the communal cold water tanks for most flats and a communal hot water cylinder for most flats as well. The other side of the 5th floor has a tiny studio, where the the cold water is supplied from a tank above the studio's roof and the hot water is supplied from an adjacent immersion cylinder serving that flat alone. The radiator in our bedroom does not warm up. I removed the thermal adjusting "thing" to expose the pin. The pin simply slides in and out as I would expect it to do. In or out, the radiator does not warm up. The radiator in the kitchen was the same, but removing the "thing" and pulling the pin out, gently of course, corrected the radiator and it functions normally now. What should I do to coerce the radiator in the bedroom to begin functioning again.

I bought one of these for Xmas and have started using it, however I've noticed little dints in the pipe after using it. I figured it must be the sharp edges on the guide that we're doing, however after filing down those edges I'm still getting the dints. Has anyone else experienced this and if so did you solve it?

I have a problem with my system when both CH and HW are on. The CH seems to take priority and the HW hardly warms up.

To get the HW to heat I usually need to turn down the heating on the thermostat or turn it off on the programmer.

Is there a way to make the system give priority to the HW over the CH.

I worked on a light commercial installation recently and worked on threaded steel pipes for the first time.
How do you break into it? One length of pipe with joints at either end need to rotate in opposite direction at each end to get undone!
I was lucky in that there was a sort of coupling joint on a short pipe and I just had to undo it. Otherwise I'd have been screwed.. like those pipes!

The job was just to cap off an appliance, so I didn't want to go altering pipework and so on, except...

 

Ideally I would like ufh to run at 35

....but with current flow rate set at 75, the boiler aims for 75 and gets there way too fast! and overheats as the 35 mixing valve blocks most of the heat, the boiler does not like that as it over heats too much and so trips (lock out), so, I should have a buffer tank to absorb the high heat output, and the ufh can draw on it slowly, but, I don;t want one! no space for it)

Rads at 55

and hot water cylinder at 65 / 70

Possible?

I am thinking each...

 

Hi guys! The sinks and toilets weren’t draining and someone has told me that the pipe has broken and is asking for £13,000 to fix it, whilst I spoke to someone from Thames water today, on my way home from the shops, and he said the same issue (clogged sinks, toilets, etc) could be from a clogged pipe and that wouldn’t cost much to get fixed. The plumber posted this video of the issue but I can’t see any broken pipe.

Hi all,

I fitted my first rad the other day and unfortunately both tails are weeping. Whilst holding the tail in my left hand I wrapped ptfe between 15 and 20 turns clockwise. I screwed them in with my radiator spanner as far as they would go, not quite up to the last thread though.

Im going to drain the system (its only a couple of rads) and try again. I guess the options are to try and screw them in a little further? Or Shall I start again and try more turns or slightly less turns and...

 

Hi guys quick question,

I got a new boiler fitted last April, always had small pressure drop 0.5 in 6/7 months in the old one which I just topped up couple of times, since getting the new one fitted when heatings on the upright rad in bathroom airs up in a week nearly to the day n then it went a month but I was loosing 0.5 bar a month the other day I seen water coming out the auto air vent it’s under the boiler my mate opened it up n there was water in the tube from the AA valve anyway guy...

For newer boilers with variable speed (modulated) water pumps for central heating. Should there still be bypass valve when all radiators have TRV's. Plumber saying not needed anymore.

I had a new Vailant boiler installed 2 years ago, and the system has needed a motorised valve replaced twice and now the Onyx pump has started making an irritating and irregular high pitched squeaking noise.
Can anyone advice me what the fault could be ?

Talking with one of the guys in the office about a mysterious boiler fault (runs, ignites, locks out) reminded me of an issue in a new boiler room some years ago. I have an unvented Megaflow system, which is 10 years old. Since October last year we have had low pressure in the shower, I have had to take off the shower mixing valve every few weeks and clean out what I believe to be scale from the hot water inlet mesh (see photo attached) . The pressure then returns to normal.

The TPRV valve is slowly dripping in the tundish, even after i reset the airgap via the instructions on the front of the megaflow, could this be causing the buildup?

Last year, my wife and I viewed four apartments in a block of apartments that had a district/community heating system. Each apartment therefore had a heat interface unit (HIU). It was my first experience of this type of heating and I had never seen an HIU before.
