    2391 paper, june 10th

Send me your email address. Please note, it looks like a copy of the paper, but it's actually a simulation. If the questions are the same as the original, it's just a strange coincidence!;)

    PIR codes

I went to the IET presentation yesterday about the first amendment. Brace yourselves for the new 'Condition Report' to replace the PIR. It has its own Schedule of Inspections / Tests which look much more detailed, but they've ditched the Code 4 'does not comply but don't worry'. Google 'IET...

    2391 written exam last nite

I agree. Values of voltage drop make sense if you include both conductors, but the question gave resistance of conductors, and needed you to recognise that there are two cables presenting this resistance. You needed to double the length.

    2391 written exam last nite

Thanks Scotsparky, OSG seems to be clear in saying that values are for a 'length of run in metres'. It does make more sense to give figures for voltage dropped on the cable length, rather than individual conductors. I assume it's the same for the values in BS7671, which would explain the 58%...

    2391 written exam last nite

I doubled the length of the conductors, but now I'm confused: Table 4D1B in Appendix 4 states that 10mm sq cable in conduit drops 4.4mV/A/m at 70 °C The title at the top states: 'Single-core ... cables', so I'd assume the values are for one conductor only. The table in the question paper is...

    June 2391 Question 15

I waffled loads on this one. The question asks about the effect on the fuse, but I thought it was about the effect on the whole circuit. a) The fuse blows, but the whole circuit is still connected to line voltage. With no current now flowing, all parts of the circuit - including the neutral...

    Solution to 2391 Q26 (june 10 paper)

I did a slightly simpler solution. I took the 45A to mean the current which flows even with the cable length in the circuit, rather than thinking that 45A is the current which would flow if the fixed equipment was connected directly to the supply. The question described the current as part of...

    2391 paper, june 10th

Q1: BS7671 requires an inspection to be made on installed electrical equipment during the initial verification. State the three areas to be verified. (3 marks)

    D Day 2391

I found a copy of the paper on the bus going home last night. Weird! Question 16 referred to an IT system: "State the test instrument used to measure the earth electrode resistance fo an installation protected by an RCD and forming part of a [sic] IT system" Does anyone know if you can even use...

    2391 paper, june 10th

I think the IT question (no.16) was a spelling mistake. You can't have an RCD on an IT system can you?

I have a copy. It fell into my bag after the exam. It's now on a shelf. It might fall onto the scanner below.

I think you have to double the cable length because the voltage drops across both the line and neutral conductors.

    Day Off.

I did my 2391 last night. I have a copy of the question paper. It must have fallen into my bag. What should I do?
