    Finding a very awkward fault

When you carried out the IR test, were the ring final cpc's still terminated to the earth bar? Sometimes people remove them to to do the continuity tests but forget to reconnect them before doing the IR tests. If the fault is between a live conductor and a pipe, it may not show up on the circuit...

    Howden's oven plugged in?

Howdens also put the same label on the flexes on their gas hobs (for spark ignition) so not sure that loading is the reason!

    Anyone remember these?

There's none in those, or at least not the ones I've worked on.

Where to get special tool to undo light fitting screw?

Possibly one of these: CR Lighting. Design Plan Lighting Column Key - http://www.croutdoorlighting.co.uk/products/168-cr-6024-design-plan-key.aspx

    Agreed! :)

How should I relocate the downstairs hall/landing light switch box?

Hi, This sounds relatively straight forward. It wouldn't cost much for an electrician to do this work so I'd recommend getting one in.

Client is being very naughty and im caught in the middle

Is it definately a DNO incomer? On some multi-building sites, such as colleges and universitys, the distribution cabling was installed by the local electricity board with a central meter and customer switchgear. The submains look like DNO cables (paper insulated lead etc.) but are in fact...

    Letter in Professional Electrician Magazine

Read a letter about the failings of Part P in Professional Electrician magazine today. It was written by a "Pete" who uses an electrical forum and has over 50 years experience.... I wonder if it's who I think it is??? Anyway, a very well written letter, thank you Pete! :)

Just a general query to make sure I’m not being shafted by my employer

In addition to your qualifications, are you working on your own or working with somebody else most of the time?

    Inrush currents and solutions......

12x E8's shouldn't cause you any issues on a B6 (even on one switch). I've seen it done a few times recently. If Enlite do supply any data, please share it with us as it would be interesting to look at.

Just doing an EICR today and in a quandary...

Are you sure it's class 2? The manufacturers instructions say "Class 2 termination with earth provided" but I notice they also have the double square symbol which mayt be misleading. That could just mean the terminal box is class 2 and the rest of the fitting is class 1. Have you got a photo...

    Odd LED floodlight problem

I've always understood that they do. A few weeks ago I would have agreed. However, I can't think of any other explanation - can you?

    Odd LED floodlight problem

Luckily the lights were exchanged each time and I can access the job at any time so the only cost was my time. Still a pain though but intriguing too!

    Odd LED floodlight problem

It's a Zinc 360 deg corner mount from Toolstation - I know I should have bought one at the wholesalers.... ;)

    Odd LED floodlight problem

Just to follow this up, I visited the job again and found that the 10W LED floodlight had indeed failed and didn't work when connected to a 230V supply. The PIR definately has a relay, is rated upto 1200W (I know LED's will have a high inrush current) and is still switching the 30W floodlight...

    GU10 LED Spotlights fading

The LED's are GU10 Buzz, so mains voltage.

    Odd LED floodlight problem

If the 10W floodlight was the only one on the PIR then I would suspect that too. When I return to replace the (possibly) defective floodlight I'll test it to see if it works. If it does, your suggestion could well be right.

    Odd LED floodlight problem

No, the PIR is working fine as the 30W floodlight works as it should from the same PIR.
