    Calibration Poll

My MFT is off being calibrated by Megger (needed a software update) but I'll look at the Calcards as well for ongoing checking. But will still get calibrated annually. Probably by Test Meter people (they couldn't this time as they can't do software update)

    German Market Lorry Incident

Why? Do you imagine those planning such outrages have it printed on their foreheads? At one stage they suspected a Pakistani man (since released) so not a European. And plenty of terrorist acts are carried out by home grown converts so shutting down borders won't achive the desired result. Not...

12v LED lights/Lead acid battery help

Then I'd look at one of the smart chargers designed for longer term battery charging. Automatic Electronic Car Battery Charger 4A Fast/Trickle/Pulse Modes 4 AMP | eBay -...

12v LED lights/Lead acid battery help

Bung a solar panel on the roof with a charger and let that do the job.

    Cost of low voltage lighting..

Even with LEDs you can get Cool or warm (cool is bluer, warm is oranger) If you get high enough LED Wattage they give off as much light as halogens but they tend to be more directional.

Earth wire on domestic heating oil tank - various questions

Can't see that earth wire doing much in a lightning strike except explode like a fuse wire.

    Website build and email address

I'm using GoDaddy. Fine for a simple site. I have a domain for my business that gets forwarded to my personal emails. The other useful thing is a local phone number that re-directs to my mobile or voicemail.

    Pricing on a job?

When I quote I state that its based on initial tests before I start being acceptable. If they go ahead the first thing I do is test and if there's a problem at that point I speak to the client about the issue. I explain the test and the failed result and what's likely to be involved in tracing...

Please can anyone help a DIY guy? ...CH problem....

If it was the diverter valve then the boiler and pump would still fire up. As they don't it has to be programmer or thermostat.

    Do I need conduit?

I'd slide a section of conduit in the hole. Partly its easier to get the cable through as they can't get into the gap. Second reduces the risk of any building work higher up causing debris to fall and damage cables.

    2394-2395 course

Yup that one was hard as it wasn't multiple choice. Couldn't even do a 1 in 5 guess.

    2394-2395 course

No part of Access Training course. Its fast track and not ideal if you've not already got practical skills. I knew 3 questions were a guess but to be honest I knew I was good for a pass so didn't bother to over think it Managed 100% in the Part P exam and over 90% in the 17th edition.

    2394-2395 course

    Voltage through earth to desk

Indeed the other option is to do nothing.

    2394-2395 course

Much like I won't buy from Sports Direct. When I mention not buying from such traders most folk just look bemused and state "but they are the cheapest" When you point out that being the cheapest maybe one reason they pay so little and treat their workers so badly. But as you say most folks just...

    Neutral-Earth fault?

I'd be tempted to turn off all but one of the circuits a few minutes before the trip happens. By a process of elimination you should be able to isolate the circuit that is causing the trip.

    Voltage through earth to desk

For peace of mind. The OP was troubled enough to measure and find a voltage (a minimal ghost voltage at that) The desk has the extended socket installed so an earth is easily available. Use that and any ghost voltage will be gone and peace of mind is restored.

LED Fluorescent Light Fitting - Standard Fluorescent Tube

Take care with LED replacements for tubes (done a few) many require the starter and ballast to be removed but a few say they work with them left in. I've had some that seemed to work as described but would then flick off then on. Removing the starter and ballast was then requires. Also some LED...

    Extending a ring

Its not often I need or get advice on mechanical things. I was a car mechanic many decades ago and have always done my own servicing on all my vehicles. Its that fact I have no issues about sharing that experience or knowledge online. If somebody asks and I know I will share. Its for them to...

    Voltage through earth to desk

One simple option would be to run an earth from your socket extension built into the desk to the metal frame.
