I read that, and the statement from Ofsted on the matter. With lives at stake, and ignorance seemingly having the upper hand presently, let's hope this matter gets some legislation sooner rather than later. When I see them, particularly when I see them at my children's nursery/school, it takes...
Sweden is pretty hot on electrical safety and you will need to pass their trade skills qualifications by working with an existing licensed contractor. The law is very black and white over there and EICR's are mandatory for homeowners. Your biggest issue will be language and cultural differences...
I went the legit way and notified the labc. It was only 1 new circuit to the outdoors, so they only charged me £70, which is becoming the norm for a single circuit notification. They asked for a copy of my quals, a notification and for me to send in my schedule of inspections. They didn't come...
I've been banging the drum on these for ages. I always demonstrate how safe UK sockets are, until you put one of these 'protectors' in, upside down or otherwise. I annoys me that these are sold on the premise of safety, scaring parents in to buying them. The best description I have for these...
I used the Griffin for a while, but it was just a bit too rubbery and stuck in my pocket. Best for size, protection, usability is Otterbox Defender for iPhone4. Keeps the dust out and you can touch right up to the edge of the screen.
I just thought I'd share this gem with you. I had a call to connect a cooker. No biggy, just do the usual tests, check the rating and wire it in. When I got there, there was the old 7kW oven/hob unit in the garden and a chippy indoors who'd just fitted a new worktop and fitted the 'new' hob unit...
Thankfully I operate in an SSE area where they hand out seals. Thank heavens for common sense, they realised they were over stretched some time ago and that has put an end to the issue. It just needs sorting out everywhere else now. I did some very risky live work in the past, I'm glad those...
Either way is ok, prescribed zones as everyone else said. I'm guessing there won't be that many sockets in there, two doubles maybe? May be easier to conduit from point to point if you're putting some in anyway?
I expect there's a CPC up there, but for a long time, earths weren't always included in lighting circuits. So, finding a CPC under the floor doesn't mean it goes back to the earth terminal at the distribution board. You've done the right thing asking on here, and you've done the next correct...
I was such an inquisitive child as far as electricity was concerned, I should be dead. Maybe I've become immune to it? I'll just fetch a screwdriver and find out.
I remember my lecturer explaining all of this, and it made perfect sense at the time because he was very good. However, age, kids, work and alcohol have made all the details go a bit fuzzy. What I do remember, is that it takes around 50mA to cause fibrillation in most people and the 30mA limit...
IT and AV equipment throw plenty down the CPC during normal operation. Home offices and home cinemas are problem areas for RCD. I usually split the sockets up over a couple of radials with their own RCBO's, as well as the extra CPC.
I have several different sorts in my kitchen, I'm trialling them before I start recommending them. Some work off standard tran, others not and like the other chap said, it's a bit of a lottery at the moment. Some of the cheaper lamps are prone to a 25Hz flicker from time to time. SimplyLED are...
I use one and find it depends on the brick. Use the grit edged blades for plaster, grout and block work. Grinder for all else, but the multi is my first port of call in someone's home as it creates a lot less mess.
1: short cables in anything.
2: cheap light fittings
3: all the clients cr@p that's in the way.
4: cpc's twisted together in one sleeve.
5: chocolate terminals
6: HMRC
7: the price of fuel
8: cutting holes in ceilings
9: CSA's bigger than 4mm
10: working in the cold
Not in any particular order!
Screened Cat5e over 3m next to a single T&A will be no problem from a signal perspective. I've done longer runs than that without any signal issues but it depends on what data speeds you want to achieve.
