    No service head fuse?

So the fuse holder is just a convenient connector to terminate the concentric into tails.

    No service head fuse?

I guess it is. Simple answer. - But what threw me was the meter at this end. I guess there's no requirement on the supplier ( not talking DNO any longer) to put their meter in any particular part of their cable. I'm just not used to working in flats.

    No service head fuse?

I didn't have time to check further, was only there to swap some mvhr fan filters. Orange cable doesn't combine NE, it's TN-s. Presumably some fusing down the way. Was a bit surprised to see it done this way since the meter is this end. The orange cable must be a sub-main fused..somewhere.

How a big HRC Fuse is made..

Likewise.. And I had no idea they would be wound on a spiral like that either. I can guess that compared to a straight element ( which I'd have expected), the spiral adds length so presumably reduces the relative heat-loss conducted out the ends in the event of a small overload.

    No service head fuse?

So I was at a 2 bed flat today, ground floor on 4 storey block. 3 years old flats. The supply head holds a red fuse holder reading " solid link, do not fuse". TN-S and the CU is just off the bottom of this shot below the 100A isolator. ~75 cm tails. "Fuse" is all crimp sealed, I didn't pull...

    cheapest place for van insurance

What I know is if you are a limited company or if the van belongs to your business, it's very likely to cost double for the same vehicle and the same driver. "Business" before any service (phones, insurance, internet, you name it..) is a green light for suppliers to jack up the cost.

    Small Bulbs Keep Blowing

Fridge and freezer (not oven) you can fit LED instead of halogen. They will be much more tolerant of on/off cycles, vibration and voltage fluctuation.

swapping 12v lamps to l.e.d 12v lamps and lack of load issue

Much better to go GU10. But if you must do it the expensive way, then MR16 will run AC or DC 12V.

    Downlights and Loft Insulation

UK's love of downlights carries with it a very significant carbon footprint. Get them covered, but only if Led and then ideally only if insulation coverable ones. There are some integrated type which are specified for use that way, otherwise check out Icage for GU10.

AMD 3 DB on a TT system

Since you are getting 0.3 you are presumably measuring the neighbors decent TN earth via the bonding (repeat with EC isolated:). Low reading though suggests DNO might well be able to provide PME. Why not ask them if it's available and make half your problems go away?

    Builder safety worry

I would say your experience is not uncommon. There are loads of small builders out there still badly fudging electrics.

    Resistivity equations

@Gary. Try to visualize it this way if it helps: A 500M length of 1M^2 cable (wow that's a big fat one) would be 500*1.72e-8 = 8.6e-6 ohms. Your 500M cable is 1.43 ohms. Hence as a fraction of 1M^2, the CSA is simply one over the other. = 8.6e-6/1.43. - And that's in square metres. Since there...

AVI (Approved Voltage Indicator) - Common Misconceptions

For I2C : My Dilog AVI has an 18K input impedance. High enough normally of course (if no other leakages), but too low for it to be driven anywhere close to 230V by a Martindale proving unit (which can only drive about 3mA, - hence about 60V on testing the AVI).

Milwaukee M18 Hole Hawg v M18 Super Hawg

No. But if it's any use. I got through several crappy 90 degree attachments which kept breaking, before I found this one. It doesn't look like much, but it's head and shoulders above the rest in performance. Oddly it seems to be maybe unavailable now in UK, - but I spent no time looking...

    Garden lighting prefered methods

If the customers can afford them, I'd go Collingwood. I quoted the other day a cheapo one using off the shelf MR16 spike lights from Amazon and remote transformers. (Still not cheap enough, - waste of time that was) . I would always avoid GU10, especially since they are nearly every time in...

ADVICE PLEASE - SURFACE CONDUIT SYSTEM FOR REWIRE 3 BED SEMI FRC

Your chemist father doubtless understands the nastiness of the Dioctyl Phthalate, but a surface rewire will leave all that in place anyhow won't it? If it's dripping out of the fittings (that does happen) I can understand the point, but though the cables get soft and a bit vulnerable in the...

    Issueing "danger notices"

I do one now and then. The last was for "Potential danger" in a rented property on TT without up-front RCD and ~ 100 Ohm Ra. It was the nicest way I could put it since the tenants were running about oblivious. Without it I suspect nothing would have happened. (Maybe it still hasn't).

Can you hardwire a plug-in LED set of lights (for under kitchen cabinets)?

It's much nicer to choose some decent quality LED strip, aluminium extrusion and separate wireable LED driver. But if you really must use a set with a power-brick type supply.. (You probably you get a lower quality light as well. Done with the downsides yet?) - then you have a couple of...
