Quality of solar panels: quantifying the difference between "cheap" and "good" ones

Re: Quality of solar panels: quantifying the difference between "cheap" and "good" on If they were installed on a solar farm in the UK then they almost certainly are MCS certified. I'd say go for it. But be aware you won't be able to claim FIT payments from them.

Quality of solar panels: quantifying the difference between "cheap" and "good" ones

Re: Quality of solar panels: quantifying the difference between "cheap" and "good" on Depends what you mean by 'cheap'. Any MCS certified Chinese solar panel is going to be a decent one. This idea that Chinese panels are of a lesser quality is no more than salesmen nonsense and outdated...

    Solis inverters - problems

I wonder if anyone else has had issues with the Solis inverters? Particularly the smaller Mini range? I'm having an issue with a Solis Mini 1500 inverter at an installation we carried out a few months ago. Every morning, as the sun rises, the inverter is repeatedly cutting in and out. The...

Hmm, the G59 application seems like a pretty hefty barrier. Presumably a lot of sites will be rejected?

Flooded Ducting and Low IR so

I had no idea that SWA would absorb water. So I imagine this can be quite an issue when burying cables with a permanently high water table?

Two identical systems, one 20% down...

Are they literally in identical conditions? And have they been through a winter previously? Just wondering if one of the arrays is suffering from some mild shading which only hits in the winter months?

    Pv on rcd

That's how I've always understood it. I remember suggesting an RCD at the 'PV' end of the install (assuming that it's cable run required it) on here a few years ago but can't remember what the general consensus was.

    Supply Chain Disappearing Suppliers

EH Smith have also run down their stocks. They're now getting kits in on demand only. A shame because they were the only firm that offered anything like a decent service.

Additional panels and inverter to existing system

I've got a customer interesting in extending his 2.25kWp system, adding 1.75kWp more to bring it up to 4kWp. My understanding is that I can install a separate inverter and meter and that this addition will be paid at the current FIT rate while the old meter gets paid at the old rate. Do I have...

    The Future of MCS...

    The Future of MCS...

If the inspectors want to come and actually scrutinise my installs then I'd be happy with 6 inspections a year. If I'm going to have the headache/charade of sorting my QMS document out every time then I'm going to be very annoyed indeed. The industry could be improved many times over with a...

Thanks Jason. I take it the email informing me that no G59 witness test was required won't cut it?
