Some MFTs have PSC/PFC test combined, I wonder why others have it as a separate test

I'm open to learning at any time :) And you are quite right, my MFT is a 1731 so it starts on the 3-Lo when I select loop impedance for L-PE and 2-Hi for L-N, so I have to select 2-Hi manually, but rarely do I connect all three leads, I'm usually dobbing around with just line and earth...

Some MFTs have PSC/PFC test combined, I wonder why others have it as a separate test

This is exactly what I thought until the area engineer asked me why the hell I was using L-PE on 2 lead mode to get the PSCC and L-N loop impedance during my last NAPIT inspection. My answer was 'why not? they are the same test, they just use different leads'... but there is some difference...

Updating SMD LED from white to red

So, unless I'm much mistaken the light output from LEDs depends largely on the forward current. That 1500mcd will be with them maxed out at 20mA I suspect... driving them at their maximum for long periods will shorten their life. I believe with the resistor you have on the board, the current...

Bizarre variable IR problem at 250V

So, what I've mostly found in situations like this is a pinhole somewhere in the insulation where a cable's been pushed back into a box and scraped on a sharp edge or clipped by a screw etc. You run the test for along period (on the Megger MFT1731 you can just hold the test button to keep the...

CT clamp use in PV system

In itself, it's not capable of increasing your import from the grid. If you're moving it and the reading is changing, that's to be expected (to an extent) because whilst CTs are pretty good, they are not as accurate as direct measurement. What it does is convert a fluctuating magnetic field...

Resistor across L-N in an adapter box. Possible or asking for trouble?

Indeed, definite cooking capability I feel.

Resistor across L-N in an adapter box. Possible or asking for trouble?

If you want to put a load on a circuit... you can still buy 2kW fan heaters... what's wrong with them? Or a kettle? Or as @grumpyjohn01 suggests, a circuit locator? Although it's not a precise science as the signal injected into the circuit will appear on others and at the board it can be a...

    Anyone help identify this?

I think it's just a communications hub for the smart metering... so it does the wide area network communications and the meters just talk to it.

Countrywide Repairs Offering 350 EICR's IS a Scam. AVOID

Since the companies involved in this kind of thing like threatening people (it seems to happen on a semi-regular basis), I would suggest you do not post their names here. If you wish to discuss the kind of people who carry on their business like this, then we have a trade only area of the...

EICR code for over rated shower

If you've never checked out the round Crabtree pull cord ones they are worth a look if you have to use a pull cord, but for toggle switches I totally agree... modern ones are a complete pile of garbage. They used to have twin terminal screws now they have one singular screw made of cheese.

monitor AORUS FI27Q - tripped breaker.

Yes it is entirely possible that the issues you've experienced have been caused by failures within the power supplies of the monitors. Like all switch mode power supplies they have electrolytic capacitors which are energised at mains voltages for much of their working life. They usually...

Changing 50w 12v Halogen downlighter with led type with thin pins.

Yes, there are 12V LED lamps but many transformers are not capable of properly regulating their output voltage if the load is too small. A typical specification would be 20-60W... put a single LED on that and it's highly likely the output will pulsate as the transformer struggles to properly...

Ground Floor Bathroom Extractor Fan Query

I'll second this suggestion from Mike. I've fitted one of these and was able to solve the clients condensation problems with practically zero noise. Very impressive units.

Pyronix Euro 46 v10 engineer code

@planetf1 , Where abouts in the UK are you? There could well be a local member who can assist. If you know who installed the alarm originally, it may be worth getting in touch with them. When I install an Enforcer I get it setup so I can manage it from home using the Pyronix software...
