Hager High integrity board + RCBO’s + solar install.

I have just fitted a new dual row Hager consumer unit with SPD for a client who has EV, will be getting battery and PV Hager do a change over switch (SF263), which is NOT an isolator (you will need the isolator in the main unit as well as an isolator in the new unit for the generator supply...

Connecting a Sunhouse SSHE070 storage heater

I have had this recently You need to have the heater on the 24h supply and then get the switching times for off peak from the supplier- as well as ask them if the switch times stay on GMT or change by an hour in the summer Good luck getting this from your electricity supplier- I would also ask...

Live incomer is earth cable wrapped in brown tape?

I would advise caution The client is telling you what the job scope is- it is your job to let them know what needs to be done to make things safe and then they can decide what to do When you go back take pictures and notes and then let them know you will send an estimate later on You should...

    DP ISOLATION SWITCH.

Some suppliers do not charge for an isolator, maybe swap supplier to one who does not charge There is also a scheme where the DNO will upgrade a supply for free for green stuff- and you will get a free isolator as part of the works

How to learn more about the UK Building Regulations in general.

Yes, thats a bit naff I think the problem is that 80% of Westminster are people who went to independent schools and these people are less in touch, in Scotland there is a left leaning government and many of them have been at the hands of dodgy landlords. Most Scottish MSP's went to normal state...

How to learn more about the UK Building Regulations in general.

There is not one UK building standards. Things differ across the UK In Scotland the cladding used at Grenfel where these poor people were killed was banned in homes above 2 floors in 2006/7 See here https://www.gov.scot/publications/building-standards-technical-handbook-2022-domestic/

New rewire and fuse board - views on work.

The regulations prefer (and usually require) a single point of isolation. You currently have 2 consumer units with seperate isolators The new consumer unit you have will be too small if you are adding PV etc, the max Hager do in a single row is 14 way with SPD (RCBO's), remove 4 ways if a dual...

New rewire and fuse board - views on work.

I am in the process of quoting a new consumer unit where the client will need a larger consumer unit She is going for a dual RCD with additional RCBO's for, I will be installing a Hager VML91620CUSPD She is also getting PV and probably battery storage - this is the reason for the larger unit...

    UK Limiting power from sockets

If you wanted to limit current in the property you could have the heavy duty appliances hard wired on to different circuits through an fused connection unit etc and have the rest of the sockets on a 10A MCB, this would allow for almost all general use and prevent things like heaters and car...

Cause of massive night time usage?

You can have your own meter installed after their meter. You can get a meter for around £50 and have a compotent electrician install it

Cable missing in central heating wiring

I was assuming the 5 cores went from the boiler (FCU) to the cyliner cupboard. By moving the reciever for the programmer you now have s/l for CH and HW adjacent to the pump and motorised valves, the 4 cores you have will do L/N/E/SL - boiler. The existing programmer would now be redundant

Cable missing in central heating wiring

I would have the 4 cores as L,N,E - supply to JB (install hive reciever at joint box) 4th core pump over run The hive adjacent to the zone valves stops the need for the s/l for the CH and HW as it can now be derived from the new hive reciever (in the cylinder cupboard)

Cable missing in central heating wiring

Unless I am reading it wrong there is one core short at the junction box (where the zone valves / cylinder are) The Hive (or similar) only needs a L,N,E so the reciever can be located adjacent to the joint box. As the reciever will give you seperate switched lives for HW (on), CH (on) and even...

Cable missing in central heating wiring

You could do away with the timer and install a hive reciever in the area where the zone valves are. A 2 channel hive (or similar) would work and leave you an extra core if needed as the hive only needs a 230V supply You would still be able to connect things to this such as remote thermostats etc.
