Isolate whole lot from one point for sure.
Mate of mine who is gas safe reckons best practice is to isolution through a 3A plug into socket as "DP Isolators can go wrong". I can kind of see the point but looks a bit naff and frankly if you can't trust fittings well it raises all sorts of...
Blue Bosch all the way for me (except their angle grinder which was carp) also they're owned my a charitable foundation so nice to know you're giving something back
Bought one a while back (PMF180E) and the more I use it the more I find out how handy it is. I have not been tempted by the cordless version though, aside from drills I can't see the point as the batteries all go duff sooner or later.
A friend of mine who is a plumber sent me this from a house where he was working. Looks like the MET is connected to the incoming supply with some sort of braid and nothing connected to it!
He said that a socket tester said all OK and that a few GY cables went direct into the CU, and could see...
I always have a nose myself, and as I usually go to france have seen quite a few of their installations. I must say I have never seen anything which is less than wonderful (usually Merlin Gerin)
Plumbing is another story though!
I've had a couple of shocks and both times went to A&E just to be on the safe side. Doctors (different) both times told me that if serious you would know VERY soon. However it can make you panic a LOT and heart race due to the shock (i.e. panic not electric) so I would always go for an ECG...
At a property today I found that several lights have been taken as a spur of a ring main. At the end of the spur I get 1.33 Zs which is too high as it's on a 32A B MCB and should be lower than 1.16.
If I convert this to a fused 3A spur with FCU, can I used the 3A fuse to calculate the max Zs...
I don't think you'll get interference from SWA as emi is carried away through the earthed armour.
I didn't know that thanks I've learnt something there
I would take the 10mm swa through the wall(at an angle), already vprotected against damage, into an adaptable metal box then singles from...
Been floating around for quite a while, and have now successfully moved house, so the questioning can begin.
A brief background: The house we've moved into has been recently renovated, and rewired by a local electrical company, who at the moment shall remain nameless.
Cables in the kitchen...
In a similar situation the DNO said existing cable was OK up to 60A but luckily there where two phases available so installed second phase at 60A also. House in question was of similar age so might be worth seeing what the incoming cable is.
Thanks guys - it was my mistake the screwfix ones I mentioned are CW not BW but it's not the clear on their website, at least not to me.
I still don't get the difference between 20 and 20s - to do with the size of cable they can accommodate?
Could someone please explain the difference between BW and CW glands for SWA? I thought it was that BW was for internal and CW for external use, but Screwfix sell BW rated IP66?
Screwfix # 19254 BW 20 gland IP66
Screwfix # 16877 BW20S gland IP66
Both of which say “BW” on the packets.
I am...
I have Bost drivers also, bought them on holiday in France. Really top kit. Also have their stubbies which have come in handy. In the UK they are sold as Stanley FatMax or Britool which are the same thing, except you don't get the nice French orange colour!!!
