Those were exactly my thoughts Lucien. As I said in my original post, it took me a second or two, to take in what I was looking at ( and this was in relaxed, workaday situation).
Hate to think how someone might manage in an emergency situation.
How often have you come across a consumer unit fitted......upside down??
Now, I’ve seen quite a few fitted sideways where space was a problem, but I think this is the first for me. No obvious reason for this, plenty of room, circuits were long enough and routing of tails wasn’t a problem. It...
Thanks for all the suggestions/recommendations folks, looks like I’ll give the Bosch ones a try.
I’ve used auger bits in the past, but on a couple of occasions nearly broke my wrist when the jammed!
Cheers SC. I realise the Irwin bits are not that costly, but for something that “appears” to be well made, I’m just finding that that they are blunt in the blink of an eye!
Happy to spend more for something more durable. I too believe to buy the best quality tools you can afford, but for what is...
I’ve tended to use Irwin flat bits in the past, but I’m finding they are loosing their cutting edge really quickly.
Anyone recommend an alternative which lasts more than a couple of holes in softwood?
Do you know exactly what is wrong with the E7? Chances are the dno may repair at no cost.
Also, is/was the water heated overnight when E7 was working and is it now supplied on the ( more expensive) 24hr tariff?
As others have said, getting the E7 fixed is probably the best option.
Buzz, sorry to be a humourless git, but I don’t think it’s helpful to put the fear of god into non-electricians, in an attempt at humour. The work is definitely carp tho’ and needs fixing.
Kind regards, Mr Happy.
I think part of the problem is that the site advertises free advice, then some regulars get on their high horse when DIYers come on and ask how to wire them up!
It might be better to put/have info in the Arms, to inform those of us who are not clued up on these systems, and perhaps to PM...
Murdoch, I was waiting for that bit of information you were holding back for when we had all jumped in saying "not compliant"!
Now I'm guessing there's no trick to your op.
So, on basis of what you've told us, the installation does not appear to comply with the current regs.
There, I've said it!
I think ( as far as the MET is concerned), just looping off the “spare” terminal you will create is the least problematic approach. You don’t want to be involving other occupiers if you can avoid it.
I’m not that familiar with the English building regs, but does Part L not only apply where the job is subject to building warrant e.g a new build, major renovation, extension etc?
And, expect something in the 18th regarding energy conservation!
Ok, so, in your area Scottish Power is both the DNO and a supplier/meter operator.
If you are happy to go onto a single, 24hr tariff, then any of the suppliers can offer you this. This however means that all your space heating and water heating will be charged on standard rate. As has been said...
