Yeah thanks for that. I think volt drop will be fine as the circuit isn't overly long. Probably just over thinking. Which at least is better than under thinking! Looked like a JB arrangement so fingers crossed only one cable per FCU.
Got a job coming up replacing 3 old storage heaters with panel heaters. Customer is coming off E7. Had a look today and was expecting the usual 3 x 16A MCBs, but found that all 3 heaters are on a single 6mm^2 circuit. There is an 850W unit, a 2.55kW and a 3.4kW one sitting on a 32A MCB. I have...
I don't think you can get them TBH. Might be easier to just sink in a twin (i.e. 2 gang) back box and use an FCU and a single socket. Would have to enlarge the hole slightly as those boxes are a bit wider than a double back box. And make sure you're not creating a 'spur off a spur' situation.
Out of interest, who has more than one MFT on here for situations like this? I have a Megger 1730 as my primary and a Robin KTS 1630 as my backup and for verifying odd readings.
My freestanding cooker is connected straight from the CCU with 6mm T&E. I wouldn't install it like that but I ain't pulling it out to change it just yet either...
I am not fitting anything, just thinking about how the job was done. It could go where the 2 x FCUs are now, in a cupboard off the landing. Obviously the CU idea is totally unnecessary anyway!
Whatever you plan for and write down now in terms of projected costs and revenues, when you do go SE you will find the real world is nothing like that!
I was called out yesterday to a house to have a look at a wall mounted heater in a bedroom that had stopped working. Had a quick look, and noticed that the heater was controlled by a 20A DP switch. No FCU. In the CU, it was on a 32A MCB. Upon further investigation, I found that there were...
N-E faults are one of those that can sit there on an old installation for years without being detected, and is one good reason to do testing before a CU change! I remember getting bitten by one of these early in my career, had to rectify it at my own cost because I hadn't picked it up before I...
