    Old switches

I made one of these switches work for my dad, I was going to use SELV and run low voltage though the switch to a relay, but the old switch contacts where not reliable enough to always close., So in the end I made a little plastic & metal linkage which pushed a modern micro switch mounted...

    Running boiler with no electric

Or a wabasto or espacher, diesel boiler Small size , heat water for radiator loop, work very well i have few friends with them on canal boats they are also 12 or 24 volt, and consumer less electrical energy than a conventional boiler you can also have a separate small plastic tank for...

Designing a supply with a 0.8 TNS Ze.

This is all true, But i think the OP is talking about fault protection before the consumer unit and meeting discconection times of the main DNO fuse or downstream fuse/isolator etc Which is why he mentioned it would need to be a 32a DNO fuse to meet disconnection time without using an RCD.

    TT earth rod cable

I will have a look, still unsure if it is ok to have the earth connect at that point though, so currently the 10mm connects to the sockets cpc where the house earth is isolated, but could it be connected at the last socket instead regardless of the size etc

    TT earth rod cable

Dont think there is any metal parts, maybe parts of the door frame which is being replaced. There is an RCD on the ring final and it is feed from an RCD FCU so no discrimination

    TT earth rod cable

Hello, A friend of mine has a garage which is powered from an FCU on a ring final from his house, the garage is a little way from the house and is a TT earthing arrangement (the house PME earth is terminated in a plastic wiska box (where the SWA cable is terminated) and isolated from the...

Another Hot Tub Thread Part 2

I wonder how much a 3kw isolation transformer would cost, possibly more than the hot tub

Another Hot Tub Thread Part 2

Also make sure the Rod is not too close to anything metallic in the ground which would be bonded to the PME MET (gas pipes, etc) As if you are too close to bonded metal work, the voltage from a PEN fault will appear on the earth rod, and you have situation you are trying to mitigate against...

    Another Hot tub install

Would TT not be safer than a rod attached to the PME earth, as with TT there is no risk from open PEN conductor. And for the suplimentery rod to be of any use it would need to be around the 2 ohm mark (depending on the fault) which could be hard to achieve

    Open PEN causes?

My village is PME, but overhead seperate cables. The lowest cable is the PEN and is jointed at each pole for services. There maybe alot of faults on this type of distribution as it doesnt have the protection of concentric cables in ground etc

    Dodgy LayZSpa

If it has a Class label II, that would explain the supply lead. As regards the breakdown, that might be just the life span of the apparatus. I can't see any legs on trying to get any redress on this failure, it being a second hand product. I would just scrap it, and buy a new one from a...

    Dodgy LayZSpa

Not having an earth does not automatically make it dangerous there are reasons the manufacturer might not want it to have an earth and instead make it class 2 (double insulated) A big reason could be for it being plugged into PME / TNCS earthing arrangement (youtube john ward PEN failure if...

UK Advice on testing RBOS in prison

I have C/U with memshiled MCBs in. I have converted some to RCBO via the MEM pod which clips to the top of the MCB. I guess this is how most of the memshiled RCBOs are done. the pod has a flying N lead and N terminal but the Line conductor is fed though a hole in the pod (though RCD coil) and...

    Storage heaters

Have you got a duel rate meter? Like in my house I have a duel rate meter but only one set of meter tails to the consumer unit, so for 7 hours over night my electricity is half price compared with the day The previous owners had single rate electric tariff, and they submitted there reading by...

    A 32amp hot tub and a 40amp sauna on a regular, domestic 80amp supply

If it is worked out and there is a problem with demand, then maybe a priority switching unit could be used like this: https://www.garo.ie/Product/pg_ShowerPS/Metal-IP41-Shower-Priority-Boards/GM6-PS/1-ROW-SHOWER-PRIORITY-BOARD these switch off one of the loads if the priority load is taking...

Implications of Amendment 1 for EV charging points?

I have looked at the Zappi chargers and yes they do seem to be a better solution, although the PEN fault protection when the utilisation voltage stays within the range is via current sensing coils, if the house has no extraneous conductive parts (plastic water pipes etc) then in order to have...

Implications of Amendment 1 for EV charging points?

Yeah JW has a vidoe on the amendments monitoring the voltage between L - N in this way (like the matt-e single phase o-pen for example) in my opinion this is a bit like putting gaffa tape over a rust hole on your car, the hole is gone but the problem is still there as it is still very...
