[DIY] How do I insert wire into this thing.

I can't help with your wiring question but I am wondering what that item in the backgound is that presumably is supposed to be a BS1363 UK compliant plug (which it isn't).

    Replacing socket back box

No a tester screwdriver is not going to help you here, and regardless are not a safe method of proving safe. I wouldn't bother ripping out extra plasterboard as that will just cost you extra in the long run which you might as well put towards having someone come and do the complete job for you.

    Replacing socket back box

It's not a cable tie... To OP, do not cut this without knowing exactly what it is doing and proving it is 'dead' first. In fact as it is only single insulated I would suggest not to disturb further and seek qualified assistance, you may suddenly make that back box 'Live'

    Replacing socket back box

That's what I see also..nicely bearing against the un-grommetted edges of the back box. Does seem strange though with coming through the top and exiting through the rear for no apparent reason.

I hate seeing metal back boxes without grommets, even worse when the outersheath has been stripped back so only the conductor sheath is left to bear against the edges....

Non combustible enclosure used on the original installation...maybe they were expecting trouble !!

How to Put a 3pin plug upstairs for dummies?

Agreed vermin trouble either past or present. Get someone round to carry out an inspection as you appear to have exposed live conductors which is a health and fire hazard. Also the rest of the installation needs to be checked, you could have other vermin damaged cables as well.

    Compex Exia and ip washers

From what I can see the failed inspection is not infact an EX failure but is an IP failure. The instrument manufacturer will have all necessary seals etc in place on their housing part to ensure the IP rating they declare is achieved. However when it comes to the cable entry all the manufacturer...

    Abb

You shouldn't have any trouble with ABB units, they have been in the game for many years now and have had there products badged by others for a long time also. All I would say is buy from reputable sources as there are counterfiet copies around (same with other makes as well mind).

    Compex Exia and ip washers

As has been pointed out the IS IP requirement is less than that required by the site minimum IP requirement. If its offshore then fit an IP washer if thin wall junction box, if its a threaded entry then you could use IP washer or a thread sealing compound if permitted by the platform...

    Light Switch changes

Keep the circuit turned off and do not use. It looks like you have a line conductor connected to the metal casing. Seek the services of an electrician to sort you out.

    Shower Pump install

There is of course a possible positive to this especially if the pump does have flow switches installed. That being that the extractor fan must be running to enable a shower to take place thereby ensuring some kind of moisture control in the room and also because the light will be on the...

    Cut Solar PV cable

Just as a matter of interest was the cable damaged by yourself or someone you contracted to do other work for you. If your self have you talked to your insurers. If it was by a third patty then make a claim on them.

    Rcd tripping - very odd

Just an observation from a non electrician so this is not advice but just a query really. As I understand it company policy is for RCD protection on all circuits as mandatory safety measure. However my impression is that without a neutral the RCD would not function correctly as a safety device...

RCD protection for circuits in a toilet (not shower/bathroom)

It's all about attitude isn't it Hightower. I'm not an electrician, I understand the basics (I definitely am cleaner than a virgin on electronics) but I review this forum frequently and enjoy reading the posts and cringing at the way some installs have been carried out. With yourself I have...

Utility company charges for our damage to lead sheathed electricity cabling

Glad your partner did not suffer any serious injury. Last year I hit my incoming supply (I also was very lucky) with a cordless drill. I knew where the incomer was as I could see it and thought I was drilling in a line that took me away from the supply. Unfortunately what I didn't know at the...

    Single Electric Oven new installation

And that's a risk that they won't take the old one away. To the OP see if you can pull the cooker out a little and look down the back. If you see the cable go into the wall without a standard plug then you need an electrian in to disconnect your cooker. If landlord approves get telectrix in...
