Domestic - What do you normally use?

Don’t understand this question to be honest. Every scenario is different, can make a case for them all. Plastic conduit for me on a re-wire nearly always. Steel conduit if it’s outside the zones. Don’t really ever use capping unless I absolutley have to, awful stuff.

    Led street lights tripping mcb

Could literally be something as simple as a knackered MCB. Any pattern to the tripping? Or just random? Inrush, Water, MCB. What’s the location of this? I once had a mystery street light tripping on a Caravan Park. Turned out to be Mr.Smith turning it off himself as it was disturbing his...

Hob Issues - RCD keeps tripping.

I know it’s behind the worktop and out of sight but there should be never any excuse to not get the socket and connection plate in-line & straight. This however is just a small niggle compared to that joke of a connection. Whoever has done this is a complete Cockburn. Get it checked by a...

Female electricians, for better or for worse?

To go off on a slight tangent, this applies to everything in my opinion. 10 people for a job, why isit than in 2018 we have to have: - 2 black men - 2 white women - 2 gay men - 2 gay women - a transgender - a goldfish It should be the 10 best people suited to that specific job, regardless...

Stroma Certification Scheme 1st Stroma assessment

Not sure I agree here Murdoch. I’ve been elecsa , niceic and napit in my time and they’re all embarrassing. The questions they ask are so blooming basic, a drunk monkey could pass. It would be nice, if just once an assessor asks me something relevant but niche e.g something that’s not the...

    DIY enthusiasts and electrical work.

Don’t have a problem with have-ago-hero’s myself. If they want to tinker with electrical work and potentially cause injury / extensive damage to persons or property - let them. Common sense tells you when you’re out of your depth, and if you’re still going to tinker you deserve a belt. And...

Can I put these two cables together?

Are we talking RG59 here? Or are we talking about a mains cable for a camera that'll be plugged into a socket? If it's the first, then yes segregation is required. The latter, nah.

    city and guilds 2394/2395

You are 10000000000% not on the 2394/2395 course. You're a 5 week wonder - the bits of paper you receive at the end of the course you're doing will not find you employment. The 2394/2395 course will set you back around 500/600 quid. Every provider that gives 5 week courses needs to go to...

    Becoming a Domestic Installer

480 quid ? And the rest ... insurances, your van and it's costs, calibration, tax, IR ....... And clients wonder why sparks charge so much, because we're getting fingered left right and centre from bills.

    Down lights

More chance of the joist catching fire than the insulation, that's why they're separated. That's the key element here, the joists, literally don't worry about the fibreglass. Infact insulation is incredibly difficult to burn, it just melts, even at ridiculously hot temperatures. Fire rated...

    Hum.....is this a C2, C3 or no code.....

Clive is that Socket on the fixed window frame or the actual window? I have an amazing image of a massive loop of slack hidden out of sight so that someone can still open and close the window whilst using the socket.
