Hard wired smokes with CU change?

You’ve missed my point here. The socket was never faulty to start with just the fact that the user plugged the 3 pin plug under load conditions and blamed the socket for being faulty when they saw a spark and s**t themselves. Verified what exactly?

Hard wired smokes with CU change?

No it does not, however I do believe that a switched socket is the best option unless a switched fused spur is operating the unswitched socket

Hard wired smokes with CU change?

Totally agree, I have lost count at the amount of times I’ve been asked to check (dodgy) sockets due to the user plugging in equipment/appliances under load conditions and then sparking (arcing in our terms) I understand that by not having a switched socket doesn’t make a difference Aslong as...

Take it on the chin josh, however do not be afraid to write on here at any time. Like I said In previous post, I’ve been through similar scenario as yourself but I’ve always respected the views and advice from the seniors on here or juniors and learnt a great deal. Blowing sockets and popping RCD

I think he we might have hit a nerve with josh. Although we do come across as being harsh it’s with good intentions. If he reads through Alan-N’s post step by step he will have sorted the fault. Anyhow I hope you don’t get put off josh but the guys/gals on here can be ruthless at times (speaking...

    Blowing sockets and popping RCD

Yes but the trainee needs to realise the risks involved regardless if it’s weekend or not. You can’t potch about with electrics unless your superior feels your able to. Although the crash course sparks worry me

    Blowing sockets and popping RCD

Our advice to you josh is although it may seem a bit harsh, we do not want you to cause harm to yourself or more importantly your client. You don’t play electrics or gas but you can play paint or plastering. I appreciate your coming on this forum for advice because your stuck, come clean and ask...

I think he is out of his depth and probably doesn’t have a clue what your message is all about. This is the dangers of knowing a little but not a lot.

    Blowing sockets and popping RCD

Josh, please ask a competent/skilled person to come and assist you. You should not be touching a megger without the knowledge or experience. Or in this instance carrying out installation work. Please please get help with this because it will come back to bite you.

    Options for electric heating?

Yes the heating systems throughout the UK are very complex and each needs to be considered for the benefits of the user. As we are the installers and our industry will be heavily reliant in the coming years/ decades we need to weigh up the customers needs and demands and give our expert opinion...

    Options for electric heating?

I disagree with this because the new smart heaters will not waste electric and draw (charge) the electric at 100% capacity overnight. The intelligent system built in recognises the required duration of period to sustain the required temperature for the next 24 hour period based on ambient...

What test to carry out before consumer unit change?

This is exactly the best way to think about testing just simplify it without overcomplicating matters. Providing you know the max permissible values or know where to find them then it’s all straight forward

    Extending 1.5mm and 2.5mm cables

I thought part p was a thing of the past? No DIY work is superior to a competent/experienced “electrician”

    Extending 1.5mm and 2.5mm cables

I have my doubts I don’t believe anyone without suitable training/experience should be touching any electrics I didn’t take note that the guy was DIY always get an electrician in.
  15. G

    Extending 1.5mm and 2.5mm cables

I would never suggest a diy member does anything with electrics. As you know from my previous years on here I am strictly against any unqualified/ incompetent person touching electrics to save themselves a few £££. My apologies I did not even look at his status. My final answer to the DIYer -...

    Extending 1.5mm and 2.5mm cables

Ok I’ve just read the op properly instead of skim reading. If it’s in a garage where cables are clipped direct/conduit then yea just replace the cable don’t even know why this is a question tbh 😂 unless you have a monstrous garage just replace the cable. If it was a more difficult situation and...

Also just to add in the bathroom anything under the bath/shower basin is considered to be zone 1, however if a tool is required to access under the bath/shower then it doesn’t have any zone.

New kitchen does it need own fusebox or change just the mains fusebox?

The electrician has done a good job and from what you’ve explained on here raises no issue to concern. I really don’t understand what you’re problem is with the electrician. You’re looking for faults on here but absolutely nothing wrong with the install pay him up
