Am I being the one who’s being stupid but doesn’t it siffrat the extension lead is at fault? The surge protection one? The fridge works now doesn’t it without being plugged into extension lead one of most common faults is a faulty extension lead. Try to avoid them as much as possible
Fair enough mate I just don’t like it when customers come on here and then will use it against the electrician to not pay just by a single comment. They asked the person in question to carry out the work and therefore should trust his judgement I know there are plenty of cowboys but this...
Yes I appreciate that but drilling new holes surely would make matters worse wouldn’t it? I’m just counter debating ideally 50mm below top or bottom is perfect but using existing holes which have been used in millions of properties throughout the years doesn’t warrant non payment surely or...
I agree I would feel hard done by if one of my customers had lifted floorboards and inspecting my routing of cables. I would/Do use existing holes where necessary although I tend to stick to the rule of thumb of 50mm from top or bottom of joist but I certainly don’t stress over routing my cables...
I agree. Not saying it’s you the OP who is the person who is in doubt in this situation but my advice is don’t be worried or intimidated by this new spark who’s quoted the repairs at £7500. He’s just a guy who is trying to make himself sound good and put others down. It’s easy to find faults in...
I was talking about not having the feeds in the lights a hallway for example with 2 lights and one of those being operated via 2 way switch just found it easier taking feeds to switches and connecting through the switches
Yes only other way I do it is feed into switch 3 core between the 2 way and then sw at other end or same end. SW into common one end and joint through permanent live to go into common other end. Usually do this on ground floor flats to reduce the amount of cables going into light fittings
Yes you are spot on the Hager’s now often have high trip times but I’m sure that when you alter the mA setting they then give readings which are satisfactory if you google it you will see what they mean and it’s our misjudgment not theirs when we say the trip times are unsatisfactory I had this...
Yes I would too, however I’m seeing that bedroom sockets on radial 16A I think it was non rcd protected and yes it was installed before 18th edition I’m assuming but was there any mention of that? Pretty high reading of 1.3 ohms I think it was with 4 points. The report looks poor in my opinion...
Drive by EICRS ? thats the common phrase round my area and we aren’t yet at the stage of requiring an up to date EICR in Wales yet like the landlords in England and Scotland. I can’t wait till it all sets off and I’m then asked to carry out fault finding on a recently tested property. Not many...
Yea I can’t open the link but I understand what you’re trying to display by the wording. I’ve come across a few older installs which were wired in singles and earthed through the conduits. Was great when I was rewiring them. Tied on and pulled through new pvc twin and earth and got paid per...
Yes true but you need to have your books to hand don’t you. Or even better post on here and guys like yourself help out. (I HOPE) i will be going through that process in the next year or so when Wales puts it in legislation to have an up to date EICR like our compatriots in England and Scotland.
Yes exactly I used to install a lot of dual tariff storage heaters and I sometimes flipped a radial 24 hour supply over to the off peak I tested that circuit prior but sometimes that was more beneficial and less time consuming than running new supply to that location. You need to get a spark in...
These are the EICRS I hate, you can argue that it is compliant based on test results but in my mind it’s not and needs upgrading is there any RCD protection in here? It’s well outdated and I would recommend the consideration of rewiring the property it’s well overdue isnt it. Many will argue...
Welcome mate, good on you for posting and uploading on here. I’m devastated that 10, 15 years ago I was ripping out old accessories and fuse boards and not giving a damn and now that I’m more appreciative and have more knowledge and understanding I’m gutted i did so I love my trade and...
I might be mis interpreting this but as far as I’m aware you are allowed to (spur off) from a ring final circuit mcb 32A at mcb providing it powers one socket outlet. The regs do show a nice picture diagram of this. It is no different to spurring off a socket outlet connected directly to the...
I would not be concerned about the light not working I would be more concerned about the fact the light fitting is not earthed. Get an electrician in simple.
The thing is Brian is trying to say that “DIY DAVE” should not be potching about with electrics and then coming on here asking for answers. The work should have been carried out by a qualified and competent electrician would have saved you the hassle of coming on here and asking what “DAVE” done...
