    I found the fault location, I managed to gauge the route of the lighting cables and because the test wasn't clear from the c/u I went in the loft and tested legs from the junction boxes and manged to find it that way

    Yes I did show the client the cable and tried to explain the best I could about how I thought the cable failed I think they were just happy that the outside light were working.

    Hi guys bit late but thought I'd follow upi found the fault on a switch feed for an outside light, but on investigation there were no nails that had pierced the cable, so just for my own satisfaction what could of caused the cable to burn out so far down the cable? Cheers

    I thought they were centre tapped and the metal enclosure would be earthed. Cheers for the advice I'm back on Friday so I'll reply back Friday with a picture

    Yes in the bathroom there 12v down lights Murdock, I've never come across a transformer failing could this cause a live to earth fault? And is it a common fault? Cheers for the reply

    I though rats as well but I did a good visual inspection and the cables and the routes seem to be clear and good, no smells either

    That's a different story all together mate, if you want to supply your cooker on an independent circuit of its own youll need you current design current and then choose a protective device with a suitable rated current ect ect ect ....
