Smart switching for 3.5kW heat pump?

Some HPs , you have to pay extra for external controls :-( e.g. Fujitsu charge £70 for a plug and flying lead, lol

Smart switching for 3.5kW heat pump?

I would delve into the make and model of the heat pump and switch it on and off using the available external controls that come with the heat pump. I have a HP setup for my cabin in the woods, i use a Honeywell smart stat which is a volt free contact which connects to an external input on the...

Struggling with Calculating Energy Usage on 3ph

I answered a similar question for the client, just looked at all the heaters (2KW per heater) and then asked for their half hour consumption figures from the energy supplier, looked at the times when there were closed up and then spotted the consumption of the heaters and external lighting, a...

    Adjusting tripping time.

Or just supply the roller door from a suitable UPS, have seen this done for gates but not for roller doors as there has been to date, a pedestrian access door. This is really a major oversight......

Will an RCD offer any protection in a building with NO earth circuit?

As mentioned before, the DNO supply transformer is expected to have a centre point Neutral which is then referenced to Earth at the Substation and in some cases along the route to the home/businesses. Any conducting surface like a toaster casing that has become live, if the toaster is earthed at...

    Which way to turn?

Thats a tough one, i think you will find the answer will be very personal to you and how you deal with work and everything else that also matters but does not satisfy clients or put food on the table. All i can add is that i have chased the money at the expense of other matters and have some...

    Different kw readings

Have fitted those before. Not wanting to state the obvious but it is vital that the voltage inputs to the meter, L1, L2, L3 match exactly with the L1, 2, 3 current transformers. i.e. the line that you designate as L1 for voltage has to be the same line you designate for L1 for the CT Please see...

    Different kw readings

I think a diagram could help, also i assume your KW readings are from the meter you are testing. Again assume your hairdryer is single phase and the meters are three phase. How the meters are connected ? Type of meter? End of the day to get accurate KW you need an accurate current and an...

    Hi all from aspiring electrician

Immediately thought of Electric Vehicle maintenance..... I have recently put a damaged Leaf back together and was surprised how little knowledge is out there, in fact , alot of the car trade are a little scared/reluctant with EVs , yet second hand or damaged they are as cheap as chips. Apart...

    Ceiling exhaust fan speeds

If there is no way out of the room now, you could change to a condensing dryer when this one expires. It will be much better to get rid of that amount of water directly out rather than trying to shift a large volume of air and hope it carries the moisture away with it.

    Ceiling exhaust fan speeds

I have mostly found dryers exhaust directly outside, rather than into the room, be worth checking the dryer and see if it has a round exhaust pipe at the back, if so, you can vent that directly outside

    New project, advice sought

Hard to see how controls wont come into play. FWIW - i would not trust with blind faith the component choice of the lighting designer. One way or another you will own it, if it "works as expected" or not. If you are going for PSUs/drivers in a central location, i would assume this is a modest...

    Becoming an electrician

Hi - to answer your questions, strong maths skills and science will help alot with the theory side which help you fly through that aspect of learning. The Electrical trade is vast, with so many different working conditions, your weaknesses, as you see them, will not stop you, if you are...

    Quotation Dilemmas

There are a few variables which help me decide on installation methods. Leased building or owned, critical services or not. Existing wiring, i.e.. how far back towards the board do i need to go before getting good, So i tend to price things based on what would be appropriate for the age and...

    Table Saw trips RCBO

Try starting saw first, dust extractor second and heater last. If the heater is a 2KW fan heater you will be close to the limit without the extra load of starting the motor anyway. Saw , hopefully, when its running will take a much lower current than what its rated at.

    Introducing myself

Am a little younger than yo but i did own a Morris Minor and have worked on a Standard Vanguard, last really old car i drove was a Wolseley 6 . First car was an Hillman Imp, girlfriend had a Austin Mini travellor, eh the good old days, could fill the tank for a fiver. There are some great...

3 phase problem after spark did 5 year safety inspection

MFS makes an interesting point, i cannot recall needing to remove tails from an isolator to do an EICR, plus if they are connected to the Henley rather than a CB off the TP board, they would have been live unless the main fuse was pulled or there is another TP isolator for the whole supply. If...

3 phase problem after spark did 5 year safety inspection

OK, but your loads presumably have not changed prior to now, so just measure the load now. A pic of the SP board breakers may give a clue to whether overloading the board is even possible. It was rather naughty to not leave the isolator with you, however you still have the board and clamp. ;-)
