Tell me about it, been working with some shopfitters who are a decent bunch of lads. But their bosses dont trust them so they are running the job from the office over 100 miles away, yet when things go wrong they they are immediately trying to blame everyone else.
I would terminate the existing cable into a suitable adaptable box/junction box, preferably inside if possible then take the flex from the light into that.
Also kitchens are not deemed to be a special location.
