    411.5.2 says a RCD doesnt need to be fitted, but is preferred. 701.411.3.3 is for rooms containing a bath or shower, so you have one or more of those in the property? Edit are any cables buried in walls?

    Can see there will be lots of calls and emails to manufacturers in the new yesr regarding this, hooefull they are prepared and have the daya to hand or even better a data sheet for each DB which they could issue if requested.

    Tell me about it, been working with some shopfitters who are a decent bunch of lads. But their bosses dont trust them so they are running the job from the office over 100 miles away, yet when things go wrong they they are immediately trying to blame everyone else.

    I wouldnt of thought so if you are just swapping like for like and no new cables are going to be installed except for a bit of flex.

    I would terminate the existing cable into a suitable adaptable box/junction box, preferably inside if possible then take the flex from the light into that. Also kitchens are not deemed to be a special location.

    From memory as not the book to hand but anything under 4mm requires mechanical protection.

    No it can be used in any situation that it is suitable for, this being one of them.

    Use a 2 core flex to the light then install a Junction box or equivalent onto the cable to join to the flex.
