Being trying to sort out the sockets at a house this morning. A right mess, spurs off spurs everywhere. I have identified the ring itself and how it runs, but it seems it is partly wired in 2.5mm and partly in 4mm, seemingly at random. I know it's electrically sound, tested it and it's fine...
Hi all,
when undertaking a full rewire I have always installed a 2.5mm Ring Main for the sockets. I am considering switching to a 4mm Radial for easier testing (plus I don't like the idea of it being possible to unknowingly break a ring main and not know about it causing possible overloading)...
Found a 2.5mm spur running of a ring (no rcd, 32 amp rewireable ). The spur supplies a outhouse with a CU (10amp and 5amp mcb)
Due to layout cant get take spur directly from closer to the CU, or put in a separate circuit. Simplest seems to be to put in a 13amp fcu to protect the spur, however...
As above, I have a plumber who's changed the water heater on a finished garage annex that we've been doing. The original one was 1.2kw in a bathroom undersink unit. There is an electric rointe 750w towel rail aswell so I put the two on the same circuit to save ways in the new board. He now wants...
Hi guys. When and for how long was 2.5mm T&E produced with a 1mm CPC? And why?? I'm at a house which uses this stuff (all with white sheath) all over the place. One ring circuit uses this for one leg but 2.5 with 1.5 for other leg.
Is there any rule, as per the regs, that states that flexible cable can or should not be joined with T&E for the purposes of extending?
When I say "flex" of course I mean the stuff that you can twist the cores with your fingers vs T&E, which is a lot tougher and requires a tool, but is still...
I found a nice easy second job for my Elecsa assessment. A mate wants an outside light fitting in his porch. He had a new consumer unit fitted last year, all circuits are RCBO protected, and he had a load of other work done at the same time. He's also had some other minor work done since then by...
Another joining cable thread.....
Just curious how you chaps would have done this ?
10mm ---> 2.5mm T+E, adaptable box will be permanently accessible after (re-using old shower supply)

I installed a replacement 300VA transformer, fitting a 2.5mm from secondary to junction box where it splits out, feeding 5 x 50w halogens.
Cable run between the transformer and junction box is less than 18 inches.
The casing of the transformer indicates 2.5mm - you'd struggle to get anything...
I'm changing a consumer unit- Circuitry in the house is bizarre - (e.g three double sockets in the kitchen each one on a different circuit , lighting in second extension on same circuit as the rest of the downstairs lighting but earthed via one of the ring mains)

One circuit was on a...

A while go i was asked to take a look at some sockets at the owner believed he had no CPCs in any of them (he did).
The house was pretty old 1920s-30s. The cable was in in old red/black colours, outer diameter was larger than standard solid core 2.5/1.5mm but i would say smaller than 4mm, but...
just been to see a job with a persistent tripping on breaker which consisted of electric cooker and hob totalling 8kw wired into a spur jb'd into a radial sockets on a 2.5mm t+e. i explained to client why the breaker was tripping and what needs to be done to bring it up to regs. there response...
Hello All
Recently did a pir and found a 2 ring circuits wired through a 40amp c/b one in 4.0mm and one in 2.5mm
I feel that the 4.0 mm is acceptable and tradition would say that 2.5 is wrong but thinking about it if a 2.5 has a cuurent capacity of 24amps then on a ring circuit with half the...
Hi all,
I am currently fixing up a room in my house and after removing some built in bookshelves found that that wiring for the single socket in the room was surface mounted on the walls.
Given I'm doing a fair amount of plastering in the room I would like to re-route the wires through my loft...
