Hi guys,
came across a fault yesterday on a job where I was getting 15v between neutral and Earth at two sockets on a ring main.if u need anymore details let me know.
i am unsure what would cause this and want your expert opinion as I have never come across this problem.
the installation is an...
I expect this will be an easy one for most of you, but as I haven't been in the game for long I didn't have a clue what it was until I opened it up!
Any ideas? :D
Does anyone understand main AC terminal markings of N G F (left to right)? Is that Neutral / Ground / Line as it is Italian supplier and possibly far east maker. I have not come across this before so just checking before I wire it in.
It is PCB mounted terminal block so i cannot see any other...
Anybody ever come across this? Basically, 2-way lighting (old hence old colours). 3-core goes to both switches and that is the only cable to enter the switches. The 3-core runs to a junction box - the blue and red are straight through (uncut), the yellow is cut, one end wired to the supply, the...
Hi all
I am a meter engineer for a leading meter operator, I am trying to source set of Ryefield distribution board keys, obviously without stealing them as I come across them.
I have tried all the electrical wholesalers, websites ebay, gumtree etc.. does anyone now where I might b able to...
Hello all!
I've come across a bit of a problem today as I was changing a socket and got a tingle (Isolated the MCB of course).
I tested the voltage and it was pulling 12v.
I've found when you isolate the upstairs lights the 12v on the upstairs sockets disappears.
Its a 17th edition dual RCD...
Hello,
I've been reading only on here on and off for a couple of years and thought I'd finally get around to a post!!
I'm an Elecsa member now for a couple of years and built things up slowly but came across a strange one today that I've not come across before.
I fitted a new CU and the gas...
There are always quite a few threads where the problem is the LED staying on slightly even when switched off and I see that the solution is to fit certain resistors as a snubber.
I have never had this problem. I guess I have either been lucky or have found a combination of switches/lamps that...
A few years back I was on holiday in Oz (visiting brother who had emigrated there).
We were sitting in his lounge and the lights began coming on dim and flickering (switch off but sound of arcing) - he said they’d been doing that occasionally for a few days.
I said it’s probably a duff...
If you arrived at a house requesting an extra socket, and the wiring was in the old rubber style with screwits etc, would you recommend a rewire and leave well alone, or henley in a new circuit.
Hi,
Very new to this forum so excuse any faux pas's.
Was wondering if anyone has come across this situation: Was doing some insulation testing as part of our planned maintenance and came across a motor that gave an odd result.
Capstan Motor 440V/60Hz, 24kW, Star/Delta configuration.

I have had a customer suspect that something is wrong with one of the LG panels we installed a couple of years a go. They have sent the photo (attached) as I have not visited site yet. System performance is reported as ok although the customer has not check any data on the inverter, it's a SMA...
Can anyone tell me how a din rail dimmer module is used? I presume it needs a remote switch or switches to control it?
Just come across it whilst browsing for 1000W dimmer switch.
Many thanks.
New shaver socket outside zone in bathroom. (FCU outside the room,17th ed'n board).
Checking the bathroom to see if any supplementary bonding needed, turned out the sink and bath taps were hovering at about 5K Ohm (ie >1667 and < 22K).
Turns out the owner had interrupted the hot and cold Cu...
trying to trace an earth fault in a friends home today after the RCD in the single ring main suddenly and persistently started tripping
why might I see 11 to 12 volts across line and earth on some sockets?
are there any tips regarding finding the earth fault? have broken the ring and...
Ive come across an issue on a large site i work on. May be something simple, but im struggling to figure out what the problem could be.
The site has a HV ring and 6 HV-LV sub stations. This is usually split. I have noticed in the last few months that when testing for an earth loop reading on the...
Just a quick question when taking cables across a public footpath I know the depth is 24 inch and all the relevant gravel and tape. But I can't get any deeper than 24 inch but there is a gas main and mains LV crossing my path. So essentially my ducting will be crossing there's do I need to...
Hi All first post.

My question is i'm finding the Resistors in Parallel a bit tricky see below.
The question asks me to determine the values of V,I2,I3 and R
Suppose i'm more confused in whats best to...
