Existing 14/2 Romex in 3 way switch light circuit

Just bought an old house (about 30-40 years old) with a separate shop building. I am in the process of replacing old fluorescent fixtures with new LED fixtures. The lighting is controlled by 2 switches, one at the back door and the other at the front. The wiring appears to run from one switch...

    EICR pricing per circuit

Having some pricing debates in the office recently. What are people charging for EICR's at the moment? We're about 18.50 per circuit but recently lost one of our caravan park customers. This aside, 18.50 still feels a bit cheap to me. Cheers

PV installation - dedicated circuit, or from sub main board? MCS query

hi thank you for help in advance have a potential pv installation for a garage roof that is some 60m from the main house (main incomer in the house). Spoke to a napit/mcs worker - he said the pv installation has to be on a dedicated circuit. My interpretation is that a dedicated circuit on the...

UK reg to say 2 different size cables cant be used on one circuit if rcbo rated to lower cable?

Came across a cooker circuit with 10mm and 40A rcbo. Last leg was 6mm. Isolator to outlet. I downgraded to rcbo to 32A to accommodate the 6mm. Does the cable have to be the same throughout? If so what is the reg for this please. 🤔

Adding a Fuse Spur on to a Consumer Unit Circuit

I’ve had a disagreement with one of the Engineers in work. So we are doing an install. Installing an Intruder Alarm. Rather than go with my suggestion of coming off a Socket and adding in the Fuse Spur as he’s been doing it 15 years it’s now going next to the Consumer Unit. Which at a guess is...

Pendant lights and downlights on the same circuit

Hi, asking for a friend in Australia. She wants to install two Pendant lights over a kitchen island and four downlights all on the same switch. The current wiring to the single light in the kitchen is earthed. The 2 new pendant lights have earth connectors but the 4 new LED downlights have...

Lighting circuit trips RCD but not MCB, can’t find E-N fault

Long shot but thought I’d try, have a lighting circuit that trips the RCD as soon as the neutral touches the neutral bar for said RCD. Bypass that and it works fine just on an MCB so would think earth-neutral fault, but doing an IR test between N and E shows as a pass (>99M ohm). So unsure of...

    Circuit Diagram Help

Hi all, I've been getting into electrical work these last few months, and have gone from doing rudimentary battery-switch-bulb diagrams to increasingly complex circuit diagrams as a hobby seeing as how I've just retired and need something to do. I've been trying to explain AC-DC converting to...

Homeline 50 Amp 2-Pole GFCI Circuit Breaker Tripping with tiny load

Hello, I had an electrician install a 100Amp subpanel which feeds a mini split. I addition I added a Homeline 50A GFCI breaker to power a shed. I ran 80feet of 6/3 direct burial cable into a breaker panel in the shed. Here I tied the Neutral and Ground on the same bar. Neutral and ground are not...

Cooker circuit with new appliance not matching

Cooker circuit has B40 MCB in the CU for the cooker, confirmed wired to the cooker outlet throughout, via a cooker switch & socket with a 10mm cable. Issue is new cooker has a 1.5mm cable (fitted by manufacturer see image). It is 3.22KW rated load, and 16A fuse rating. The cooker connection too...

Solution to a C2 - No CPC on lighting circuit

I've tried to research and form a plan without asking on here, but I'm just going around in circles. Just completed an EICR. The wiring ranges from new metric colours to old imperial cable. There are 2 lighting circuits, both containing class 1 fittings. Most of the fittings have a CPC, but...

Machine Safety Circuit: Fuse Integration Query

Hello Everyone, I have a technical question that I hope someone can help clarify. We're currently facing an odd issue with a machine equipped with a safety relay and interlocks. The interlocks have been failing, seemingly due to an unstable or 'dirty' power supply. While the ideal solution...

Lights and sockets on one circuit?

Hi guys. I had an inspection yesterday, where the lighting and sockets are in one circuit for each floor. There are 3A fused spurs for the lights. I also need to replace the consumer unit with 18th edition one. How would you code that? Any advice on the consumer unit would be appreciated. Thanks

2 our of 3 sockets in 5 amp circuit not working

Hi, Flat recently gutted and rewired from scratch. Livingroom has two switches, one controls the main light, one controls a 5 amp circuit with 3 sockets (3 round pins). Only just got round to testing it (a year later...) and 1 socket is working, 2 aren't. Any ideas what could be the issue? Not...

Ring Final Circuit (RFC) versus Radial. Yes, again.

This is a topic that comes up a lot and seems to attract near-religious levels of fever in how folks argue over the choice of circuit for UK sockets. However, often the arguments are ill-informed or they veer off in to pointless corners, or sometimes get personal. This is my attempt to put a lot...
