2 lighting circuits off one PIR Motion Sensor

So I have the kitchen ceiling lights and worktop lights controlled by separate one way switches. The lights are constantly being left on unnecessarily. Can I get away with one PIR Motion sensor or would I have to have 2?

Schedule of circuits - Lighting FCU on RFC

On a couple of recent EICRs I've run into FCUs on a RFC, then 1.5 or 1mm to several lighting points and would be interested how people would note this on the schedule? On the most recent one there are 6 outside lanterns fed from an FCU on the socket circuit, with max R1+R2 outside of 4.5Ohm...

Disconnection time extended to 63 amp circuits

Does anyone know why the 0.8 and 0.4 second disconnection time requirements are now extended from 32 amp circuits to 63 amp receptacle circuits? Is this because the supply sources are getting stronger?

Prospective fault at the end of circuits

Does anyone perform a prospective short circuit and, where no RCD / RCCBO, a prospective Fault Current test on the end of circuits on inspection and tests? I get we do ZS, but how do we know that the CPC or Line conductors are man enough for fault currents of X duration? S2K2 => I2 T? Cheers...

    Bathroom circuits

Hello: I am a DIYer and have specific question on bathroom circuits. I removed a jacuzzi in master bath which was tied to its own individual 20a GFCI breaker in panel box. Same bathroom has two additional circuits: 1 for lights (including ceiling fan) and one for GFCI outlets. I would like...

Multiple GFCI Outlets Tripping at the same time on different circuits

Dealing with a noodle scratcher. Trying to figure out what has caused multiple GFCI outlets on separate circuits to trip at the same time. Over the last two Wednesdays in the morning something has happened which caused multiple GFCI outlets throughout the house to trip at the same time...

new circuits onto an AMD3 board with RCBO's - ref 18th ed?

Hi, I am planning a house extension and will need to add 3 more circuits to my existing board. My current set-up is a metal CU with all circuits on RCBO's. Will I be able to add circuits to this board under 18th Ed or will i need a board swap to make room for all the extra surplus surge...

EICR unsatisfactory due to 'no RCD protection to lighting circuits'

Hello everyone I have a 1996 2 bedroom house which I'm about to let out as I lost my job due to COVID and need to relocate. The NICEIC electrician I used for my EICR has given me a code C2 for 'no RCD protection to lighting circuits including bathroom lighting'. To put this right, he's...

    Wagos on Final Ring Circuits

In a ring if there is a 30A screw terminal junction box in the ring one spur can be taken off this. The j box terminals have three cables in them. Each cable in a Wago (or an in-Sure) has it own connection slot for each wire. This makes a difference. Wagos are mini bus bars. If a 32A four...

    Software for drawing circuits

Is anyone able to recommend a website or software for drawing out wiring circuits? In my case, it would be for an intercom system. Nothing overly complex. Just want to be able to drag and drop connections etc so I can share with other professionals.

    Circuits identification

Hi. Is there an industry-specific way of identifying circuits or do you just give them id's yourself. Apologies for the basic question, I can't find the trainee forum.

Can I switch 3 lighting circuits using 1 switch with only 1 live feed

Hi All I have around 30 garden lights which turn on and off with one switch in the house. The problem is, if water gets in one light it a) stops all lights working and b) requires troubleshooting 30 lights to find the problem. Therefore, I was planning to have a second distribution board...

Submains/distribution circuits on block of flats

Hi all....I’ve got a block of flats I’m doing the M&E on. It’s just design stages atm and there is a basement where the central boiler system and switch room is going. The problem I’m having here is that this is the far left hand side of the building and the riser is pretty central. Far from...

    Incomplete ring circuits?

The recent click-bait thread on radial vs ring final circuit descended in to the usual arguments ranging from sane to near-religious, but one issue that was raised among the general noise is the risk of a ring with an open somewhere. So I wondered if the folk on here that do many EICR and...

Is there a max Zs for lighting circuits?

I can't find anything related to this in the regs so I probably misunderstood the question. The way I see it the max Zs for any lighting circuit depends on the circuit breaker for that circuit. Say we have a lighting circuit with 100x36W ceiling lights which gives us a load of 16A, we choose the...
