Hello,
I am about to conduct my first initial verification and i have spent all weekend reviewing how to do the recommended tests. However I have a question regarding final ring circuit test.
1- is this only for a ring main circuit with outgoing line and incoming line?
2- if the answer is...
were currently doing a job in massive old pub whats going to be a libary, my gaffer says put 10mm bonding to gas and water but how do you actually work out what size is required
Bugger that's supposed to say BONDING not BOINDING !

I've been asked to install a new CU at my mother in law's.
She has recently had a new kitchen installed where new lights, and extra sockets were added (circuit extended) for the fridge and (gas) cooker.
These sockets BTW...
Hi everyone
Table A.1 in Guidance Note 3 shows various values of resistance/metre for copper conductors at ambient temperature, including e.g:
18.10 milliohms/metre for one 1mm sq. conductor
0.387 milliohms/metre for one 50mm sq. conductor
But these given values of resistance do not exactly...
Hi all During r1 r2, ELI and PFC tests of a lighting circuit would it be a problem to leave lamps and ballasts etc in GN3 shows them out but I can't see a problem
Correct me if I am wrong but if we are to test a SELV transformer do we:
1. Join conductors of low voltage side of transformer together.
2. Join conductors of primary side of transformer together.
3. Test between these at a voltage of 500V look for minimum reading of 1 MOhm.
4. Test between...
Hi Guys
I recently passed my 2391 exams after a 4 week training course and then went on a 3 day Solar PV Course, so I got a lot of theory but zero practical experience which I rate higher than any manual or exam book.
Coming across this forum I hope there are some kind souls out there as I...
Hi,
Question-A mains operated room thermostat requires three conductors to enable it to operate correctly. can you connect the thermostat to an existing two core and cpc cable and.
A=Use the earth
B=Use the earth and sheath with green and yellow
C=Use the earth sheath with brown
D=Not use at...
if anyone can help i'd be very grateful.
Q. when carrying out an insulation resistance test between live conductors of the socket outlet, a short circuit is discovered.
a) describe how you would perform a test to determine the location of the fault within the damaged cable.
b) describe the...
Need some advise,
Carried out a Periodic Inspection on friday and the main earth conductor and the main Bonding to the steel was in fine stranded cable. Never come across this before and cant find anything in the regs to say if its wrong or not, so just wanted to check if anyone knows for...
Hi i was looking for some technical advice please.
I have currently been asked to do work in a agricultural college to put a socket in a horticultural green house. The main college is supplied by a Scottish power transformer it is a TNS system,so the main bonding conductors are 25mm2. Now the...
Is it an exceptable method to double up conductors in a 4 core cable to increase the CSA and then put in a seperate CPC?
If so, then as there are no tables for doubled up sizes eg. 5mm, 8mm squared etc, would it just be a case of doing the calcs for the single core size then dividing by 2:confused:
Hi there. I’m currently preparing for my Am2. I’m a little confused on how to identify/mark three phase conductors. There is a 3 phase motor to connect up which is wired in 2.5 singles.
I know the Phase colours are Brown Black Grey. My question is; if Black and Grey conductors aren’t available...
Does anyone know or where to find the calculation you do to find a fault/break in a circuit that can't be physically traced.I'm sure i've seen it somewhere in one of my books but can't remember.
Cheers
hi everyone newbie here...
i have recently passed my part 2 technical course & 17th edition and want to move into domestic electrical services. i have done a few small jobs for people gaining more experience as i go.
am waiting to do my test and inspect 2392 course, but have been asked to look...
How about this for a ponder.....
Lighting circuit wired in metal conduit buried in concrete, conduit used as the earth no seperate CPC
Replaced board reconnected conduit to main earth but readings are 45ohms obviously the conduit has broked down
My question is this, before RCD's on lighting...
Visited chaps house today for work, and noticed in the CU the following cables connected to MCB's, previous occupier had CU fitted 14 years ago.
Lights Downstairs - 3 conductors connected. They were for I presume, as I didnt run any checks, Hallway, living area and kitchen diner.
RM...
Hi all,
This has been bugging me for a while, so can anyone explain how we arrive at the value of 0.05 Ohms as the maximum acceptable value for resistance of main equipotential bonding conductors? Is there a calculation with 0.05 or less as the answer? Or is the idea just to keep it as low as...
Table 11a (osg) lists all the colour configurations for all standard cable types, this is straight forward. My question is :- When using 6243Y (flat three core & earth, Brown, Black, Grey & bare CPC). Which core would you sleeve as the switch wire and which one as the neutral when your using one...
