Not sure if this is the right forum but can anyone advise on this?
I am replacing 2 storage heaters and have been quoted around £1,100 plus vat for removal/disposal of the old (non asbestos) ones and fitting of the new ones (Dimplex manual not Quantum).
I could order these heaters myself for...
Good afternoon everyone,

Hi guys,
might make myself look stupid here
when wanting to carry out an IR test on a lighting circuit and you have sensitive equipment that you can't disconnect,if you do an IR test linking L-N to Earth is this basically the same as testing L-N.
the reason I'm asking is because I have an issue...
I'm just interested in what you guys do when you have a consumer unit swap,
1.get the electric board to fit an isolator for you?
2.get the electric board to do a disconnect reconnect?
3.pull the main bullet yourself?
4.whip the tails out live?
Everytime I change a consumer unit I get power to...
Hi everyone,
I've read that when carrying out earth fault loop impedance test we have to disconnect the functional earth of the RCBO (in case there's one) from the earth bar to avoid misleading result. Is that correct and is there anything else we have to disconnect?
I know about carrying out...

Hi guys,
I was going to carry out a IR test on a CU with a few RCBOs, but I wasn't quite sure how to proceed. Which neutral do I use - the one on the N-bar or the one going to the RCBO? Because if I use the one from the N bar I will actually test just that short piece of cable and through the...

Am I right In assuming that as long as you have worked out the fault current from a zr that meets regs for the breaker you can just use the disconnection time of 0.4 etc instead of using the graphs which I can never seem to understand
Hi guys I have a texecom veritas alarm I installed about a year ago, I'm wanting to move the bell box outside to a different wall but Im not sure how to bypass the tamper on the bell box so it doesn't bell up when I take the lid off, any ideas or help would be great!
I think I have bumped into a small disconnect between the two schemes.

Hi guys. Just a quick one. Doing the electrical work on an extension and they used to have a garden shed with an alarm sensor in it. I want to remove the sensor from the system but wondering what's the correct way to do it. The sensor has a +,-, tamper and N.C in it. So do I just bridge out that...
did a cu upgrade on a house the other day but could not identify 1 16a radial circuit. The old board was not labelled and the owners were no help. I searched high and low for it and the house was also full of junk which didn't help. What do others do in this situation ?

Hi Guys,
I need to disconnect a phone line from an ADT alarm system.
Contract is up and customer just wants a bells only system. I imagine once disconnecting a fault will throw up....can this be removed in user functions? Am not keen on crashing and re-programming the whole alarm.
At this...

Hi Guys,
I have been testing for about a year and have come across my first tt system yesterday.
I disconnected the earth and tested for Ze and got 8.67 ohms which I believe to be a great reading as osg allows up to 200 ohms. I couldn't do a Ra reading as the rod is under the house and...

I am doing a a research project (and I'm a newbie!) and I need to know if its feasible somehow to disconnect a PV array (and possibly a wind turbine) from the batteries storage should that need needed for safety reasons, to prevent any possibility of damaging the batteries.
Firstly I'd imagine a...
Hi all,
took s load of sockets off on a job and plasterers have been in to take the plaster board off , builder rang me and he says its arching on the stud work from the neutral, going down tomorrow to have a look, lives are out of the RCBO's but earths and neutrals still connected.

Hi Gents.
What a lovely day - 27c in my living room!! Will need the fan tonight.
When ZE testing do you take the main earth out from the CU or the MET?
If you take it out of the CU would I get bad readings due as the earthing to the gas and water services?
Thanks
Hi all,
I'm new to this forum and its due to the fact that I have my AM2 exam this coming Monday.
I just have a few questions.
- Do I need to earth bond the cable tray?
- I know that the External Loop Impedance Test is on the incoming side of the installation, and that when testing i need to...
I installed a switch spur behind fridge customer was not impressed, but what can you do in this situation I assured him it was perfectly fine, no cupboards next to fridge only way round it to make the fridge sit flush anyone else had a situation like this.
Hello, to everyone, would like some clues and ideas please, from obviously more experienced members on this forum.
Have attended the call out from customer, apparently his sockets don’t work. The board is old with plug in BS1361 cartridge fuses, as soon as I put the only one ring circuit fuse in...
