Hi all,
I'm new to this forum and its due to the fact that I have my AM2 exam this coming Monday.
I just have a few questions.
- Do I need to earth bond the cable tray?
- I know that the External Loop Impedance Test is on the incoming side of the installation, and that when testing i need to...
I installed a switch spur behind fridge customer was not impressed, but what can you do in this situation I assured him it was perfectly fine, no cupboards next to fridge only way round it to make the fridge sit flush anyone else had a situation like this.
Hello, to everyone, would like some clues and ideas please, from obviously more experienced members on this forum.
Have attended the call out from customer, apparently his sockets don’t work. The board is old with plug in BS1361 cartridge fuses, as soon as I put the only one ring circuit fuse in...

Hi All,
Firstly I'll apologise for not trying to collate this with another thread, But thanks to my organisation skills I find myself short on time.
I'm currently at College and coming up to a assignment to do with testing etc. I understand pretty much all area's of testing, However theres a...
Domestic CU change, TN-C-S. Lighting circuit has an Extractor Fan with Electronic timer installed. When performing IR test on the lighting, should i just test the whole lighting cct between L & N (connected together) and the CPC - I do not want to remove the cover of the extractor to disconnect...
Why do circuits over 32A have a 5s disconnect time yet those 32A or less have a .4s disconnect time? I have read the relevant regs but do not understand why and cannot find the answer in my books
Morning all!
Just completed my two jobs for my NIC assessment. Confident in my work and all of my test results etc. Anyway assessor had a cancellation so has booked me in for this friday so just wanted to double check a few things that are playin on me a bit. Nothing major but just wanted to...

Whilst looking at the supply intake at a house rented by my mate I noticed the Main earth which was clamped to the sheaf of the supply cable was disconnected, the service head is a TNCS, the main earth from each small 3036 CU goes to this head as well as the two main bonding conductors...
Hi people,
Can any tell me what would make an RCD take a long time to disconnect, i understand they monitor the line and netural wires but what would make them take a long time to disconnect or not even trip when testing.
Many Thanks.
I install ovens into large supermakets, within the bakery area, and sometimes these units are hard wired, most are three phase, some are single, upto 100amp supply, i have been told the installation and testing cert is needed, but we would not change the supply, only exchange the machine for the...
Hi all, I've just been asked to disconnect a 3 phase compressor. Not having done this before is it just a case of power off, disconnect then power back on or is there something special I'm missing out or need to consider?
Regards.
I have a customer with a 4 double socket ring main on a 32Amp MCB in thier Snug, R2 and RN are all Good but R1 is open Circuit. The CU has a 100mA RCD on A TNCS (need to change it to a 30mA) the house was refirbished about two years ago and dont think the builder got in a proper Electrician...
When testing Insulation Resistance or Continutiy on a 3phase Motor, do you need to disconnect the cables from the motor?
Or do you just test I.R to the starter, then I.R from starter to motor? (as the starter will be open when dead)
Would a motor come under "equipment vulnerable to testing"...

I have a 32a ring that when I test the RCBO it won't achieve 40ms when tested at 5x in 0 degrees but when switched to 180 degrees it trips well within 40ms The Zs measured is 0.49 ohms the circuit trips at 1x okay so Im a little confused and am looking for help to point me in the right...
Hi
When measuring Zs on circuits do you guys leave the main bonding connected or disconnect it? Most of my testing books including GN3 say leave it connected, but another book by Anthony Hinsley says to disconnect it as it will introduce parallel paths (which I get) and that if left connected...
Hi there,
I have a ----y problem as follows:
I have a ABB disconnect switch Fused at 60A, supplying 3 phase 575V(North America) to a Power Cabinet.
The Power Cabinet has several motors and a 6000VA transformer, that steps down the voltage to 230VAC/120VAC single phase.
The Cabinet...
