I went to a property yesterday to replace an LV tranny.
The house had recently been rewired I found that the downlighters had been drilled through the timber joist
First I know its structure of some degree secound thay were open backed downlighters more or less touching the timber.
I replaced...
Hi all, I have recently fitted some non fire rated lights supplied by the customer into a kitchen with bedroom above, they are gu10 all fitted with led. I have been under the impression that this is ok in a 2 story house with a stairwell connecting main floors as long as holes are not cut in...
just a quick one...a job we are downing includes installing downlighters along a corridor of a house. The void is only 90mm. I want to use fire rated 240V downlights, but before buying (from the internet) a lot of the shallower ones i'm looking at doesn't specify a clearance dimension around the...
I dont really work in the domestic field so was just wanting to know a few things before starting a job,
bathroom downlighters, can these be mains voltage as long as RCD protected is that correct and also a fan isolator can this be situated up the the loft space, or does it have to be...
Hi all looking for your opinions on this. doing work for a regular customer. They have just moved into a new house. It has lots of problems which were caused by the guy who stayed there. The job is going to cost shed loads. So they want to avoid spaending money where it is not needed. The lights...
Haven't used any of these for a while, but today got some and when I went to install noticed they were no longer Class II, have I missed something somewhere?
Hi.
Do we know of any brand of compressible heat hood for downlighters which would go through a ~60mm hole then pop out? I'm not familiar with them, but ones I have seen on the web wouldn't appear to do that.
Edit: These are just to ensure insulation stays clear. They are not for fire...
Installing 5 downlighters down the centre of a hallway - the downlighters cant be moved to one side - need to go central but I am just catching the joists - about 1/4 of the hole is covered by joist - whats the best tool to notch out this part of the joist - it's pretty hard wood as the house is old
I have installed 12v downlighters in my mates kitchen, they are controlled by 2 way dimmers.
The dimmers and downlighters are supposed to be compatible, but now and then the downlighters flicker.
What could be the cause of this?
I have been asked to carry out an installation on a property that is undergoing complete refurbishment. I am not required to supply the parts but have been asked if I wouldn't mind recommending the spec for some items.
The first thing I have noticed is that the plans that have been provided...

One of my customers has about 24 downlighters in their kitchen/diner/utility. They all fitted in "large" dish type holders and some of these appear to be glued in.
As you'll see from the photo they aren't that nice to look at.
My question is, is there any other option, other than...
Hi guys, i touched on this last night but still can't make my mind up. I am installing 27 downlighters in a house, half up, half down on existing lighting circuits. What are the arguements for using 240v or 12v downlighters. Surely 240 is easier and cheaper? They will be fire rated and I will...
Hi guys, 2 quick points. What would any of you charge for installing a single downlighter, providing the wiring and choc box only and holes to be cut out. I've been asked to price for 27 and give a unit price. Secondly if a 50w lamp is used for low and mains voltage downlighters, why use one...
Hi, I read on forums and supplier websites that downlighters in rental property should be fire rated. I understand this is the case where the rented property is a single storey flat with other dwellings above, but can anyone advise where it is defined for other types of rented property? Please...
Hi there
I find myself in a battle ground between two suppliers! Halers EvoLEDs claim to work with "most leading edge & training edge dimmers". So, I've fitted a bank of 9 dimmable Halers downlighters driven by a 250W Click dimmer.
As I'm now experiencing reliability issues my wholesale...
Hi, partly through a job to fit 18 mains voltage downlighters to kitchen. They are fire-rated and designed for low energy lamps.
Trying to avoid taking up floors above as house is new and the floor boarding is squares of chipboard type material that is tongue & groove on all edges and nailed...
Hi guy's,
New to the forum and was wondering what IP rating soffit downlighters would need to be and do they have to be fire rated. I know you have to use IP 44 for bathrooms because of the steam.
Let me know what you think, thanks in advance.
as title. got a job on , 1st fixed today, client wants 8 downlighters (GU10 halogen) switched with PIR fitting in his new pvc soffit. been on to meteor, and they say most guys use IP rated shower lights. is that the best solution, or is there anything more suitable.
