I am wiring a kitchen and have to extend the ring. I am not able to run a new leg to extend it. Would it be acceptable to crimp inside the socket to extend one of the legs, using through connectirs and heat shrink.(I can't run a new leg as the stage the jobs at I have taken over from another...
Hello
Is there an acceptable method for extending cables? For example a boiler is being re-situated further away and I would like to extend the existing cable to meet it.
Many thanks in advance.

Hi people, I've got a job to do at work which involves moving and upgrading a CU and moving a Alarm panal in a domestic property. Ive changed CU's before but never had to move the actual position of the CU. I was going to just either use normal junction boxes to extend the cablesbut then in the...

I have to wire a feature wall. basically the wall has been altered and a double pole switch for a potential lift is now inside a new stud wall (New house).
I want to use the feed from the switch that is on the ring main to feed sockets for the TV and media plus some lighting 200w max.

Hi all,
Need to pick your brains, if I can.
Doing a CU change - New Wylex dual RCD for an old 4-way rewirable.
Existing CU has a ring final, lighting, cooker and shower - so 5 x T&E entering CU.
The new CU is being fitted approx 0.5 meters away from the old one - and the cables won't...
Fairly straightforward, just wish to check my theories...
Have been asked to put a PIR Security light outside a Garage for my Sister. Best way would be to take the feed off the garage light itself. To determine if I have sufficient allowance on the circuit to do this, would I use a Clamp Meter...
Evening all,
Been asked to wire a new extension. As there are plenty of spare ways in the CU, I suggested running a new 20 Amp radial. Customer, who is a friend, says theres already a socket there (used to be a conservatory there before the extension), so why don't you use add to thiat.
My...

ive been asked to fit some extra sockets in a kitchen but the owner doesnt want any walls spoiling if at all possible,

Now I'm not fully qualified yet, but getting there and I'm doing a bit of work at my gals place on Saturday..
I'm simply extending the ring main by 2 double sockets because we're moving the TV somewhere different to be mounted on the wall, so I wanted everything to be hidden by the TV itself...
if you have a room and want to add another socket, is that notifiable and also will the sockets then need to go on an RCD as they currently dont have any RCD's on their cu.
A couple of questions that have bothered me since 17th came in which I would appreciate comment on.
Firstly if I replace a battenholder in a bathroom with an enclosed light fitting and and cross bond to nearest water pipe do I need to ensure that the lighting circuit is RCD protected.
Also...
hi all,
when you need to move a consumer unit what methods do you find best/easy,
just done one using din rail connectors in an enclosure.
do any of you butt crimp circuits or are their any other methods out there?
I have a ring main in a kitchen to extend, socket position will be moved and existing position will no longer exist so cables / connections will be plastered over, plan is to solder and heat shrink cables then over tape all, so maintenance free connection and double insulated will this be ok as...
hope this makes sense. Can I crimp connect inside a socket to extend a leg of the ring to another socket on the other side of a wall to go on the ring final. There is already a spur off this socket and it is impossible to get any boards up etc!
Hi
I want to set up some speakers in our bathroom. I intend to use computer style speakers (15v, 1.1A) powered by a mains adapter with music supplied by battery operated MP3 player. My plan was to plug in the adapter in the loft and lead the low voltage cable through a duct into the bathroom. I...
