i have a ring circuit going through the wall to a socket on the other side ie 3 cables in one box what regs are there for extending cable so the spur can be joined to the ring.can i extend in box, crimp and heat shrink? or can i leave it as is?
Hello,
I would like to get some advice on extending a spur from our garage to the garden shed.
Is this notifiable under Part P of building regs?
(It is my understanding that extending a spur isn't notifiable in itself, whilst power to outdoor installations from the house is)
I was thinking of...

I have a customer that is more in love with solar than I am. We originally installed a 3.68kW back in July and have just upgraded her to an 8kW.
Had permission from the DNO for the 8kW but she wants to go bigger. Apparently she is having a competition with one of her friends on who can get the...

Need to reroute existing cooker cable.
Need to extend existing ring main in kitchen.
Customer has a 6way Wylex with plug in MCB's
Do i now need to provide RCD protection for these changes? Thanks.
As the title says. Customer wants 2 extra sockets added in their kitchen and there is a redundant cooker point "available" on a 32A breaker.
Using 2.5mm T & E to add the extra sockets, I'd drop the breaker to a 20A MCB but a mate says no leave it as a 32A.
The extra cable run is 3 or 4...
Hi Everyone
Got a small consumer unit to change soon and need to extend the exsiting cables as new C/U being moved to a different position. Normally would crimp & heat shrink, but would like to try a method suggested on here, but I don't know where to purchase the enclosure and DIN rail...
Good afternoon all,
I have got a CU to change that I am going to use for my NICEIC assessment but I don't think the cables are going to be long enough, I know all connections have to be accessible for inspection so if I use insulated crimps to extend the cable will this be acceptable by the...
Doing a bit of work in a house and only when the heating guys removed a panel of wood did we find where the "end" of the gas equipotential bonding cable went! They have now "inserted" a "t" before the bond so the bonding cable has to be relocated, and the only place to do it is outside in the...

Hi all,
Silly question probably so please be gentle.
I am shortly going to be carrying out a CU change. I am happy with extending circuits with crimps and heatshrink etc. However the customer has asked if it would be possible to lower the CU to a more suitable height (the existing one is butt...

Hi all. I would like to ask a question about extending the cables when moving a consumer unit. Is it acceptable to use an adaptable box with the correct size through crimps and heat shrink within the box? If this is acceptable then would this box need to be accessible or not as I would be using...
When extending cables, either becaue of moving a socket or cu change and cables don't reach, what is your prefered method?
If using crimp connectors, are the ratings OK? It seems a bit hit and miss with them. I've found some sites that say the blue 2.5mm are rated to 18, 19 amps, whilst others...
Hi have just extended a ring main,am i correct in thinking that i have to test the complete circuit and give customer an e.i.c or do i issue a minor works and just test the extended circuit ?
I have installed a SB 4000TL (with its built-in Bluetooth) in a workshop about 100 yards from the main farmhouse.
The Bluetooth works fine with my laptop, but won't extend to the house ... which also has walls 2-3 feet thick.
The domestic incoming supply and isolator is in the workshop.
Is it...
