I'm adding a outside light to an. Existing install. The lights have been wired in an rb4. Can I add my light fitting to the circuit but wire it in 3 core flex instead of 1.5 twin and earth?
Hi Guys,
Firslty i'm new to the forums so hello and hope you're all doing well.
A quick question on the size of the HO7 flex I need to use for a splitter that will have a 32A Comando Plug on one end and two 16A Sockets on the other.
Would I be right in saying that each split will need 2.5mm...
Hi All
Could anybody recommend a good tool for stripping outer insulation of flex or a good method of doing it PLEASE.
I currently use wire cutters, but if done a bit hard can nick conductor sheathing and when not cut deep enough have to try and rip outer sheath off with pliers.
Many...
I've got three storage heaters to fit, doing the first tomorrow night. I've checked everything, and each heater is on its own circuit and everything is in order.
The heaters don't come with flex and I've never installed one before so, I know that I need heat resistant flex (T85 minimum) but...

I am after either 1mm or 1.5mm 2-core Heat Resistant Flexible cable.
Does anyone have any links etc?
Have checked TLC but no luck.
Only need a small amount so sold by the metre if preferable.

When stripping off the outer insulation, you are left with say 6-12 inches of braiding. You only need about 2 inches, so what is the best way to be left with whats needed?
Do you unbraid the whole length and then cut off whats not needed? or do you cut the braiding to required length and then...
Hi
Been told by my tutor that you do not need to use a banjo when using SY Flex as the braiding is an earth.
But If im wiring for a DOL motor/starter for my AM2 then surely it would need an earth?
We have been told to use P-Nut Lock Nuts for the SWA, so would you use the same?
Hi Guys
I have been asked to change the flex on a vacuum cleaner. can someone recommend the best flex for this purpose?
I would have thought 0.75mm CSA would be adequate for current carrying capacity but what type would be durable; considering it is going to be wound and unwound on a daily basis?
Evening all,
i just would like some clarification on the best practice concerning mechanical protection of garden lighting flex. I have installed swa throughout the system buried 500mm terminating in ip56 box's to be buried underground. The system is connected to a garage ccu with RCD...
Hi,
General cable query.
Is it ok to use normal flex cable where it is installed above head height ie not easily accessible or should we be using something with more protection ie SY cable??. We are talking low ampage applications (1-5a) in a pretty low haz environment.
regards
Client wanted the flex for thier monitor routed up through tier desk, so I made a small hole for the flex and chopped the molded plug off to replace with a new one after treading the flex through the hole.
Then I look at the flex cable colours, cpc is purple, live is black and nuetral is white...
Hi all
I was hoping for some advice. I have a dimplex panel heater for the bedroom however the location I want it means that the flax cable isn't long enough to reach the intended socket. I have some spare cable but I've hit a problem. When I tried to remove the current cable I wasn't able to...

hi, i am asking another silly question,
i think the difference between 'flex' and 'cable' is flex is flexible because it has a bundle of thin wires, in what situation we prefer to use 'flex' instead of 'cable'?
Anybody used these??
KNIPEX - The Pliers Company. - Products - (http://www.pliers-online.com)
These or the dismantler tool?
Just looking at them for flex when doing downlights...
I know, I know...use Stanley and bend it but wonder if this will speed up without damaging inner cores?
For integrated / fixed appliances, having a fused switch spur can you then run t&e to a ko box behind the appliance and connect the flex to t&e via a terminal block? covering with a blanking plate.
Can someone settle an argument?
Does anyone remember when red and black coded mains flex (rather than cable) whas phased out in the UK? I say it was at least 30 years ago, my friend (who I think is getting confused with cable) says about 10 years ago.
