Hi Guys,
Hope you can help me.
I am qualified sparks and have been pat testing for over 20 years.
I am in dispute over testing a wall mounted heater connected to a flex outlet spur box.
I say it's the PAT testers duty to test the heater.
Company is saying it 5yr fixed wiring check.

On a domestic install a plumber has hooked up his boiler to the mains and then run a flex probably longer than 8 meters underneath floorboards to his thermostat. I'm doing the rewire, but this had happened while i was away on other things, i'd told him this wasnt good practice and needs to be a...
Hello all,
Can anyone help with my query please. If a fused spur has been installed by an electrician, tested and the relevant certificate filled out, can an alarm engineer connect an intruder panel to the spur using flex.
I am being told by a colleague this has to be done by an electrician...
I was at a factory job today where they had used sy flex for some lighting circuits and had earthed the braiding by untwisting the braiding then twisting it back like normal wire, earth sleeved it and connected to earth

Changing to built in double fan oven. 45A cooker switch which is supplied with 6mm from 20A mcb . Double fan oven is rated at 4.1kw.
4100/230=17.82
Would the flex be ok as it can carry up to 25A and less than a metre be used.
What do you guys suggest?
Hello all,
I've been reading posts on here about bathrrom extracts, and got me thinking. Do you guys install a flex outlet adjacent to them or do you simply go straight in to the fan. I've always used a flex outlet, as these things never tend to last over 2/3 years and it makes replacement...
Ok just wanted your opinion 2.5mm flex provided by the supplier on cookers and hobs , ive seen this twice and in my eye its wrong a hob of 7 kw and a slide in cooker of 7500 kw , it realy makes a mock of calculating cable sizes , ok if you take diversity into effect max current rating of flex is...
Hi guys
whats the regulations in wiring in flex... I have a plug top ( Sure this is not allowed ) feeding a 3 m 1.0 flex, that goes under the floor boards, pops up in a cupboard then comes surface on the facing to a really old timeclock, before disappearing to an old water tank and...
Hi Everyone
Don't often get involved in wiring up central heating! I have been asked to install new Honeywell ST9400c to replace ST7100 on a Y plan (Mid-position valve). The new programmer requires a 5 / 6 core flex.
I can get 5 core every where, but I feel over sleeving the earth is bad...
Does 17th ed say I can wire a school in T&E? In the states you cant.
Can I wire a school in metal clad flex? In the states you can.
If none of the above are allowed, we will do it in EMT

Doing a re-wire for a customer who's had their kitchen redone recently and told me the electrics are fine.when I checked, they've all been wired using 1.0mm 3 core flex then sealed underneath tiles.I can't remove the tiles or pull through new cables. Is it permissable to leave it connected like...
Guys,
I'll be honest ive never had much chance to work with this stuff.
Been asked to run a 32A 3-phase supply for some IT equipment. Looking around it appears somebody has been in previously and ran a similar setup in SY flex 10mm I think. They have used normal glands into the board but I...
Anyone have any opinion on this? Personally I say no as its not IPX4, but I do a lot of bathrooms and its an issue I occasionally come across.
I've been asked to put an elec towlel rail bang in between a bath and shower before so nowhere to put an outlet which caused a bit of an argument with...
Hi, just carrying out some testing and a few of the figures I'm getting seem way out. Just wondering of anyone knows the resistance per meter of 1.5mm. 3core flex. I'm stuck in work with no regs book and can't find bog all online. Cheers guys!
Following on from a post a week or so ago about why not just wire to downlights in T+E I've attached the following photos.
I found these when called to an existing customer to locate a fault with the lights in their flat.
The installation was done 3 years ago, not by me I hasten to add...
hi got to connect a cooker to the cooker point and the installation manual states that you should use 6mm cable. do they do 6mm flex or shall i use 6mm twin and earth?
Im think of wiring some garden light which are high up on wooden panels.would you say it has to be in armoured or is it ok as it can be seen and no trees or bushes for it to get accidently chopped. All rcd of course. Any reg against it?
Cheers
what type of flex do you guys use for downlighter wiring, obviously just from the loop in, loop out JB, down to the fitting, now i know it will have to be high temperature/ heat resistant but what would the cable code be to look for in the catalogues,
thanks
I was always told you have to run heatproof flex when wiring spots but is this always the case and if so could you point me where in the regs it states this.
