Hi,
I'm after a bit of advice. British gas installing a new boiler, refused to install as fault on electrical system. The RCD trips when performing an ELI test. I've had a quick look tonight, TT system, rcd tests out ok. IR was 10 Mohms on all circuits except downstairs socket where...
Hi, quick question for you all, do u think it is posssible to have an ins res reading of 0.02 on live earth of a lighting circuit which includes em. lighting but neutral earth is above 10 megohms ? There is low voltage track lighting also installed on the circuit.
Also can anyone explain the...
If when carrying out a "whole instalation" test from L+N to Earth the result is say 50 Megohms, and there are ,say,5 circuits would that mean that ALL the circuits pass the test or do each one still need testing?
Hi,
I am getting a reading of Live to Live = 195 MOhms
Live to Earth = 0.75 MOhms at the distribution board I am working on a Highway depot.
Are these acceptable values?
If not... what do I to?
Thanks,
Lasowski101
Just want to see what other sparks think my nephew who is in his last year was telling me that there tutor was telling them that when your doing 3 phase circuits you use the 1000v range ???????????? Your thoughts please
I'm thinking of buying a combined IR and continuity meter for fault finding on domestic and commercial installations. I'd like something that's smaller, lighter and easier to handle than my Fluke MFT and fairly robust. It would also act as a partial backup in the event that the MFT is out of...
Hi all
I couldn't find any previous posts on this topic specifically so looking for some advice.
I am adding an external security light for a customer. I am extending the existing downstairs lighting circuit. Normally when testing Insulation Resistance I would test between L-N, L-E, N-E...
Looking for some advice.currently doing a install of a block of flats fed from a bemco using 35mm aluminium split concentric cable low smoke.tested the cables and getin low readings of around 40 mega ohms on all between neutral and earth.1 cable is only 3 metres long.any one ideas why there
so low
So i have db1 in 1 block of flats for communial lights etc, feeding db2 via a swa feed underground. Ir at db1 to test every circuit and submains 0.01Mohms. (N+L together to earth)
Switch db2 off. All clear. Db2 also all clear when testing ir when investigating further.
Any suggestions??
Hi,
Can some one please help me with this question:
Q: An insulation resistance test on one of the radial socket-outlet indicated zero mega ohm between line and neutral. Explain why the result of the previous R1 + R2 test could not be used to confirm polarity for this circuit.
If any one can...
Hi all
Am doing 2394/95 at moment and trying to get procedure firmly stuck in head. Thing I'm getting a little bit confused with is with some of the vids/examples online some state to switch main switch on (obviously before supply connected) and others off. My thinking is that you might as...
I'm still a newbie but here goes.
as part of my Elecsa assessment I have changed the outlaws 1970's Fuse board to a new 17th edition cu.
the wiring is still original as well. Due to equipment that I cannot get to or remove I bridged the line to cpc and tested between that and neutral. On all the...
Hi guys,
i have always wondered when doing insulation resistance testing is there a test you can do to see if there are any loads still connected (ie neons, equipment) to see if the readings are true or through loads connected in the circuit.
Hi All.
I am currently carrying out an EICR in a local hotel. I was wondering how each of you carry out insulation resistance testing during a periodic inspection?
For lighting etc I have used joining live-neutral together and testing to earth due to the unknown possibility of electronics and...
I keep getting short circuit between live and earth. I can't work out wether this is normal or a genuine fault. Unfortunately I can't lower the floodlight to inspect further. Can only test at the bottom of the base. Can any one help?
Yo folks,
Not sure that this isn't the second post on same topic, first hasn't appeared. Apologies if so.
Ahead of altering upstairs lighting circuit to add a couple of downlights to an ensuite I carried out the usual tests. Got odd IR results. L-N >1000, L-E >1000, N-E 10!. Did a bit of...
Today I got 0.11 Mohm L-N>E at 250v then the same at 500v on a 6amp lighting circuit wired in the 70s which is the only lighting circuit for the house. Customer did not want me to remove the lamps. I forgot to ask or see a bell transformer or aerial booster. No faults known to the customer. MCB...
Hi gang
im currently testing a power station,
ive been told to use method 2 ie link live to neutral and test to earth on all the lighting circuits, which are all in SWA on tray with no switches in the circuits.
all readings ok so far, but the last couple are reading 0.00ohms.
these circuits...
please could anybody explain why I am getting a high insulation test live to earth on a chandelier with 7 of the above lamps in when a lamp is removed the reading improves by 2 m ohms for each one.
Hi guys,
I've recently just completed a rewire of a small 2 bed bungalow consisting of 4 circuits. I have tested the kitchen ring and it has tested fine, the same with the lighting circuit. On testing the heating circuit and general ring main, the insulation resistance between L-N on both...
