I would like to get a better understanding of what the specific IR test results could indicate. I'm talking more about the below 1MΩ area. I'm talking about.. wet plaster, flooding (sitting in water), degraded insulation etc etc, I realise it wouldn't give the answer but it may help in narrowing...
Hi all hope everyone's had good weekend.
I am currently studying for 2394/5 and and getting used to testers/testing by doing abit around the house. Where the insulation test is concerned i still have a few questions. I have a 2 way lighting circuit in living room and although i know that i...
I am currently Insulation testing a new install and all circuits have been greater that 299 meg ohms apart from 2 circuits where I get greater than 30.6 meg. On a new install surely this is not correct. Nothing is plugged in and no electronics are on the circuit. Both circuits are socket...
Hi guys sorry for posting as I know there is a lot of posts similar to this.
my problem Is for my trade test I am a little confused about insulation resistance test. I know most of it for example
lock off at main switch
remove all sensitive equipment
test between live-neutral live-earth...
how would you calculate the insulation resistance on domestic ring circuit when measuring with both live and neutral conductors connected together to the circuit protective conductor, is there any way of calculating the approximate value before using a insulation resistance instrument. cheers
Hi all wondering if you could help clear something up for me. I was recently working on a three phase motor rated for 480volts a.c and wired in delta. So before powering up I done my dead testing and done my insulation resistance test at 500volts d.c which I thought was correct but read up on it...
I'm fed up of having to disconnect all conductors out of the rcbo's to obtain an insulation resistance test, does anyone having a better solution to bypass this to make life easier.
hi there I have my FICA in a couple months time and generally feel pretty confident but not too sure about the insulation resistance. I know how to test it just not sure of what precautions to take and how many tests need done? also how many times do I need to flick the light switches so that I...
Hi. Has anyone had a problem with a Megger MFT1552 with regards to insulation resistance testing? All if a sudden mine won't work & displays 500mA. I've tried a couple of new fuses but still nothing. Everything else works fine....
Hi guys,
Could anyone help me Please with the following questions? I have an assignment to do which has a question that states, Insulation resistance testing has been carried out on the installation and the following result obtained:
Live to Live = 195 M ohms
Live to earth = 0.75 M ohms...
on a ring testing Insulation Resistance L-N shows 0.63 Mohms
but L-E is ok.
I checked with the home owner that nothing was switch on, nor plugged in still.( its a 3 bed semi, looked every nook and cranny)
Is that kind of reading tell tail of anything causing that in particular, or is it a case...
Getting really low insulation res. readings from my D.B.
Neutral bar to Earth bar 0.35 M.O
Line & Neutral to earth 0.35 M.O
So strange, R.C.D. DOES NOT TRIP!
Have tried removing main earth and this makes no difference
If any 1 could shed any light be great
Cheers.
I was doing a fuse board update the other day and normally I use duel RCD boards with mcb s but instead I used separate Rcbos due to the customer specifying these. I prefer fitting Rcbos due to just that one circuit is disrupted when there is a fault.
when quoting for the job I carry out a...
Hi,
So I did and insulation resistance test on a lighting circuit today.
L-N 0.23
L-E 34.9
N-E 35.8
The L-N is under the required reading, what do I do?
Do I turn it off completely or advice the customer to get it re wired and leave it on???? Cheers
My house, built in 1960, has mineral insulated cabling and a voltage operated earth leakage circuit breaker. We moved in 7 years ago (don't suppose that is relevant though :) )
Due to some rebuilding work the meter needs to be moved, and in preparation for that my electrician has fitted a new...
Recently my boss and I were changing a fuse board(old to new). It was a shared house and some of the tenants were out at work and their doors locked. Not knowing what they had plugged in, in their rooms we skipped the Insulation Resistance test. Everything else was tested fine. My question to...
Hi
Could anyone please advise how they would complete a MWC if they have tested L/N to E when carrying out insulation resistance test? What should you enter in the boxes provided on the cert?
Many thanks
We've installed a new ring - ring continuity was fine but Insulation resistance while well outside the limits was 50-60 M ohms.Obviously as a new circuit it should be perfect. Took it in half - both halves still at 50-60 M ohms, then again still the same. Thinking we might have a dodgy roll of...
Hi all ran a ring circuit for someone about 6 months ago and when I carried out the insulation test my results were around 250 m ohms for l-n and slightly lower for l-e, anyway didn't think anything of it as we had just plastered all the rooms where the ring circuit went.
Returned to the same...
