Hi,
I'm sure this is the wrong forum so apologies in advance but I wonder if anyone would be kind enough to advise on a safety issue concerning the installation of loft insulation. (this isn't the usual one about buried cables, luckily!)
I've been roped into insulating my mother's bungalow...
Do loft insulation companies just throw their lovely candy floss straight over whatever is there or do they take any measures to protect the electrical installation.
I'm guessing it's the first but I have just learnt that a family member is having their loft insulation upgraded next month and...
I'm running lighting cables in a loft for new lights but the problem is that the insulation is the ancient type glass itchy wool and there aint a lot of room to move in loft
Would it be acceptable to drill holes through the joists in loft and feed the lighting T and E through rather than...
My mum inlaw wants new kitchen fitted in her council bungalow when I looked in the loft none of the cables have been clipped down just layed across insulation it had a rewire about 2 years ago (ring, lighting and cooker curcuits)
whats the regs on this?
thanks for any help guys.
I have my napit inspection this week and was wondering in how much detail do they look at the clipping in the loft as most cables are done but parts are not as i did it after the loft was insulated do you think they will look that close?
Hi, so in my fuse box i have an old shower 6mm cable that has been redirected to be used as a kitchen ring (split in to two 2.5mm). My question is the cable runs trough the loft (top floor flat). I have had the loft insulated and read that cables the run close there their load should run over...
Seeing as inverters don't like heat nor dust, the loft space doesn't really seem like the ideal location for an inverter. I wonder where installers are tending to install their inverters? Are they upgrading the cable size and installing in the garage?
If practical, we always try to install in...
went to a job today and they customer had recently had her loft insulated, after a brief look i noticed that the lighting was wired in 1mm t&e, now i ent done no calcs or anything but just off my head i was i taught 1.5mm if loft insulation is to be installed. now just say for instance if...
Hi,
Just wondering what is the best method for taking the DC cables from each string/strings in through the tiles, slate roof etc. to the loft.
Thanks, Mark
I have been installing 2.5mm T&E from loft mounted inverter to consumer unit. Cable protected by 16amp MCB
Have you seen page 140 of the regs where it has the formula Iz Greater than or equal to In + Ig where Iz is the current carrying capacity of the conductor and Ib is the MCB rating and Ig...
Hi,
Newbie here. I'm about to network my house with cat5e and need power in the loft for the network switch. The easiest place to take it from would be the cupboard upstairs that has the water tank in it (its a system with the boiler in the kitchen that feeds this tank i.e its not an immersion...
Hello people, i was up in a friends loft earlier today looking at some wiring that he seems to be having trouble with. Its a simple set up of two lights( on ceiling roses) + the one switch. the wiring itself seems as it should (live to junction box, down to switch, switch-live back up to both...
Hi, i would like to add some extra sockets to my loft , on inspection of the existing cct installed in the loft it looks like its a radial that has been taken from the upstairs ring, spured from the back of a bedroom wall socket. I know this is not ideal but if i was to add a Fused RCD socket to...
Hum.... slightly confused :(
I have been asked to install a small consumer unit in loft to feed new loft electrics only, (Ie sockets, lights and extractor fan), however a little confused on what cable is required to feed the new Consumer unit?
Calculations make 16mm cable fine for job, but...
ive just been asked, by my brother-in-law,if id mind installing 3 sets of strip lighting in his loft. From what he has told me ,he has power running up to the loft ( his boilers up there!) but it hasnt been converted, just a few boards. So, what would be a recommended instalation method, and...
Hi folks,
I've got a job where an RCD is tripping out on the upstairs lighting circuit where the cable runs in the loft are not accessible (unless of course I take the roof off or the ceilings down - neither of which are really feasible or customer friendly)!
I've checked all the fittings...
