hi guys if installing a shower consumer unit with a 63amp rcd main switch and a 100 amp OPD PRIMARY SUPPLY then main switch is of a lesser value than the main over current protective device how do we get around this.
I'm looking at an old mem board for a periodic that has an 80A rcd as its main switch, unfortunately has no other markings on it for bs/en numbers.
does anyone out there know what its likely to be? i very much doubt its 61009
the rest of the MCB's look like bs 3871's, the house was built early...
Just wondered how acceptable this would be...
Need a couple of extra ways on a consumer unit.
Seeing as it's fitted with 2 RCDs (DP and rated the same as the main switch) is it acceptable to simply remove the switch and feed the first RCD from the tails?
Hi all
Just looking for some advice pls. I've been told that I need a new CU as the existing main switch has the wrong rating. Isn't possible to just change the main switch. Existing CU is Marbo.
Many thanks
Why on a 3 phase supply do you only get a choice of 100amp/125amp or 250amp main switches? The basic domestic main switches are normally 100amp. I would have thought that with the added voltage, that there is a greater potential amperage? Granted resistance will be reduced with the 3 phases but...
Hi guys,
I admit this is just me being to lazy to go to the van and get my regs book.
The reg about not using an rcd as a main switch, does it specify a ma rating or anything about time delayed or TT system exemptions?
I ask as i was planning to replace a main switch with a 100ma type s rcd...

Hi just a quick question, I messed up one of my test sheets for my log book which has been thrown back to me because of an incorrect BS EN number for the rcd main switch which was an honest mistake.
I am now Re-doing the sheet and I have spoke to a spark on site and I said that it should be...
Mate of mine rang me and said he changed a light fitting in one if his bedrooms. He turned the main switch off so not just the breaker for the upstairs lights,And he said he got a shock when touching the earth and neutral!! I said are you sure it was a neutral he said definately and he's fit the...
Hi
My sisters cu appears to have had the main switch removed to make room for more mcbs. Whoever did this just took it out and placed it on top of the casing. The cu has 2 rcds to the 17th. But is this acceptable to remove main switch??
Thanks in advance!
Just pushed test button on rcd and didnt trip , and ramp tested it and >50.....
Im nearly certain i pushed this before and it worked, would a recent powercut of caused this???
