hi,
need some help with this one;
I'm testing a board that is TT but doesn't have an RCD as main switch, it has a standard 100A switch disconnector (60947-3). However, every circuit in the installation is RCBO protected. Is this ok?
Just to make matters a little more awkward the supply cable...
Hi,
Changing an old Three phase board in a school today which feed off-peak storage heating and underfloor heating. The supply Is TN-S.
The board were fitting in a Crabtree Loadstar, and comes supplied with a three pole isolator.
As this is effectivly the main board for the effected...
Is the most common cause of this problem a loose connection? I came across a burnt out neutral wire on a 100A DP main switch earlier. It was hard to tell if it was loose as it was charred and burnt so bad I couldnt tell! The burnt wire was the 16mm incoming neutral.
The establishment is a...
Hi guys,
Have to make off some 95mm lugs onto an old Bill main switch, which has 160A fuses. There are 4 terminals with an M10 dome head bolt with a square shank for the 3 phases and neutral, and there are currently 2 lugs on each bolt, 1 feeding a main dis board and 1 feeding a new switch fuse...
I have just carried out a PIR on a property with an old Wylex 4 way rewireable fuse board - I understand the the main switch isolator on the board is a Bs.5419, but am concerned at the amp rating of the Main switch - I always understood that the small boards were rated a 60amp and the larger...
Hi all
Could i have some advice regarding what to put in to the main switch or circuit breaker part of an niceic domestic EIC.
I have just started testing and inspecting so sometimes need a bit of guidance.

Hello
I was just trying to test a very old Simplex 3 phase DB which I found in the basement boiler room of a small office block. The door was hanging off... ok I can fix that, there are several holes knocked out of the base of the metal case.... again that shouldn't cause too much trouble, one...
Hi, I have a MEMSHIELD D200 MCCB Panelboard and main switch which is surplus to requirements. I have been advised by Eaton/MEM that the unit is now obsolete, aswell as the breakers etc.

Hello all, Been to look at a fault today which consisted of the lighting circuit tripping the mcb. When looking into it further no obvious fault became apparent. When I took a look at the d/b I found some scorch marks and melting of the plastic on the neutral rod from the load side of the main...
hello, Do you need a main switch in a domestic property if there are 2 boards next to each other being fed from a service block.
I was thinking of single point of isolation for the installation but some say if there near each you dont need to.
thanks inadvance
jimmy
Hi Everyone,
Sorry if I am being stupid with this ( its late and i'm very tired)
Still learning and have had a call from a customer that their main switch (not mcbs) keeps tripping everytime they plug in a hoover, heavy duty drill, microwave, kettle into the socket circuit (all the house...
Hi I am currently training through skills 4 U so only have limited knowledge on electrical requirements.
I need help with the following:
I have just had my CU periodic test and the guy testing has told me my CU has to be upgraded as it only has 1 RCCB protecting all circuits. This is also the...
hi guys
after a little advice,
customer wants an 8.5kw shower fitted to a C.U with a 63a Main Switch. i assume main fuse is 60A. existing circuits Cooker radial 30a mcb, 1 ring main 30a mcb, 1 radial lighting circuit 5 mcb( its a bungalowe )
with diversity applied (quick calculation)...
I changed a consumer unit about 4 years ago now and the customer has now come back to me with a problem which happened while they were away. On their return the neighbour who was looking after the house had said that the electric had tripped out. I assumed they meant the rcd had tripped due to...
I have installed an MK hi integrety CDU fine ok installed and working , but installing an RCBO where the bus bar is slotted into the main out going of the isolator ,what happend was the isolator snapped back on , whilst i was inserting the busbar into position , most isolators switch on and off...
I was testing the above RCD yesterday on my Megger MFT1553 using the Autotest function set to the correct trip range of 100mA but I couldn't get a response from the RCD even at x1. At this point, the meter would simply flash <50V. I then retried the test using the manual functions but still got...
At the board I have isolated the installation, when proving dead my voltage tester is indicating continuity between the live and neutral terminals of the main switch. No voltage just continuity. Switched all mcb's off and on and found when 2 radials are on its indicating continuity!
Any reason...
Hi, sorry for what might seem to be a silly question for many of you. Does the main switch in the ccu offer any protection ( fault or overload)? I understand that some offer RCD protection but do most just act as a simple switch and offer no protection at all just there for simple isolation? Or...
