So customer reporting she plugged in a faulty LED light and it tripped both upstairs and downstairs lighting MCBs indicating that the circuits are connected (the board has no RCDs - yet). Before I go and do a CU change to RCBOs I need to identify the source of this fault. I'm interested to hear...
Hello and thanks in advance for any replies.
Moved into a new house with garage. My table saw... (https://www.axminstertools.com/axminster-trade-at254lts-table-saw-105573)...is causing the b16 mcb to trip in the small consumer unit in the garage. It is a relatively new saw and don't think it is...
The bungalow I’m in had a new Lap consumer unit fitted 7 years ago. I wanted the shower 40amp mcb upgrading so a larger shower could be fitted. An electrician told me this cannot be done as Lap was a Screwfix part and they no longer did mcbs for this and my best bet would be to change the whole...
If bonding raises all extraneous parts in a building under fault conditions to the fault voltage. How important is bonding if the mcb is already tripping the breaker in under 0.4 seconds if a healthy system.?
I bought the NM506L from Superlec and specified the current rating for the mcbs to fit it
What they supplied are Wylex PSB mcb's and they don't fit, at least they misalign with the switch by 4 mm and you can't put the cover on.
Can anyone tell me what mcbs I should be using. I never thought...
What is the max X/R ratio of your MCBs? What are they required to be tested to? As I understand it no one calcs the X/R ratio of the circuit they are installing or knows the X/R ratio from the DNO. Multi function tester only gives ohms instead of R+jX.
I changed 3 x 125A fuses for 3 x 125A D type MCBs (ABB). They held for a day and then two started tripping, we didn't have any spare 125A, so we fitted 100A C type and the issue has disappeared, can anyone shed any light on this for me please?
A client has a Wylex NHRS RCD main switch CU with MCBs prefixed NSB. I don’t use or see a lot of Wylex kit; are the newer NHXL prefixed MCBs compatible with this ’board?
My house is off-grid and supplied from an inverter. Max power output of the inverter is about 6kW (25A). Max fault current is 100A. The highest rated Type B MCB that can be tripped by this max fault current is 16A, so I cannot use MCBs with higher ratings than that. I cannot have a circuit with...
Hello,
We live in an old stone built ground floor flat, built in the 1880s. Obviously the consumer unit and cabling has been updated a number of times over the years by previous owners. One being the Local Authority who owned the property back in the 1960s -70s.
We have lived here for 25 years...
Recently completed a new install on an outbuilding using C type MCB’s to supply a lighting circuit for LED spotlights and soffit lights, some existing external decking lights etc and power for 5 sockets using C type MCB’s.
A few weeks have passed since I have tested and signed off the job the...
Hi all new here and wondering if you have seen heard of this situation/problem?
I wanted to remove surface mount sockets from the living room wall to decorate. In my old house I would just flick the mcb off for the downstairs ring and then made sure the sockets were dead before proceeding...
I need to go shopping in the morning for a small metal CU, about 5 outgoing circuits, but they have to be fitted with DP OCPD including some C-type. One overall RCD is OK but if I can get suitable RCBOs that is a possible. It's so rare that I fit a small single-phase board, I've no idea which...
Noticed one of the old hands doing this recently; using an impact driver (rattler) to to tighten the slotted PZ2 screws in a newly installed board. Never occurred to me that you could but when I (very discreetly) checked them with a conventional screw driver they were all spot on.
Does / has...
Hi all.
How would you split MCBs where there are two ring final circuits (so better separate them). There is one electrical shower (will be on 40A).
Any ideas?
TNS system.
My garage has a small consumer unit fitted with elcb and mcbs for the socket and lights. After cutting through a circular saw cable it did not take out the garage elcb but the elcb in the house consumer unit. If I get an electrician to changed the mcbs for Rcbos would this prevent the house elcb...
Hello all,
I've searched the forum before asking but coming up empty handed??
I have a power cut from earlier. Live in a flat with a joined kitchen / living room and heard a bang from around the boiler area, then darkness.
Checked the CB's and had 2 tripped which were "B circuits" and...
