Hello all,
I've searched the forum before asking but coming up empty handed??
I have a power cut from earlier. Live in a flat with a joined kitchen / living room and heard a bang from around the boiler area, then darkness.
Checked the CB's and had 2 tripped which were "B circuits" and...
So just wondering if anyone's had this problem before just might save me some time when it comes to fault finding!
Basically I bought my first house last week (woop) and until yesterday when putting spots in the kitchen i realised downstairs lights breaker is off but still have power? So upon...
Hello all,
I know i can still get these on ebay, but does anybody know which other brand will fit in these boards as want to buy new if possible? Will need mcbs and rcbos too if a brand fits.
had the misfortune to install this today. came with isolator and RCDs. no MCBs .
as you can see, the guts are way out. caused by din rail being badly fixed. close on the left but 1/4" out at the right. all been wired up and fired up, so had to loose the din rail just to get cover on. got...
Hi all,
Anyone know what the BS EN number is for these now obsolete breakers?
Model number is MCB<RATING>G. I know they can be replaced with Hager gear, but I've not been able to find any clue (on the breakers themselves or on-line) about whether they are in fact 60898 apart from the odd...
Hi everyone, I'm very curious about economy 7 boards on electrical installations with time clock on din rail and the contactors. I have a photo to show exactly what I mean, now I want to know how does the time clock switch the contactor to allow the heaters to operate from economy 7 times, I do...

Guys,
Just a quick bit of advice.
I was conducting a EICR and came across a square D board with all square D MCBs apart from 4 schneider MCBs were they must of been upgrades to the installation.
Are these MCBs compatable with each other? If not am i correct in noting this as a code 3?
thanks...
Eh up :)
There are often two boxes on the side/front of BS EN 60898 circuit breakers, BS EN 61009 RCBOs etc, e.g.:
The bottom number is often misunderstood.
The top number is Icn (in amps). In this case, Icn = 6kA.
The bottom number is the energy limiting class. This is referenced in...
Quick question possibly a stupid one - a click of the thanks button guaranteed for the first right answer.
Is it good practice/required to record describe them on the schedule of test results, or not ?
Of course I have come across Type 2 MCBs in old installations but trying to buy replacements has never been easy. Does anybody still use these on new installations?
Does anyone know if you can still get the Crabtree C50 MCBs bs 3871 (single phase) that are genuine and not second hand. If not do you know of an mcb that can be retrofitted into the old distribution boards.
Wanted any old MCBs & Rcbos want for cash.
[SIZE=2]If your carrying out a DB change or upgrade, keep the old breakers as I will pay cash for them.
I also by old stock left over from contracts ect.
I am based in North Wales but can travel over North Wales and north west of England, I also...
Hi all again.
Enough with helping my friend and back to the main thing, which is back to studying.
I am working on my final assessments (practice for my final L3 exam).
Big 2 story house with the following requirements (protected devices given accordingly and installation method C, clip...
Gents, Im not the most technically minded electrician in the world but could someone explain why on commercial installations its necessary to fit 10ka mcbs not 6ka throughout the installation?
or mores the point, im being asked to fit a main panel and off that a few single phase domestic high...
Hyperthetical question re Commercial Installations-
If you were to be installing a new circuit and/or reconfiguring an existing circuit which was served from a Distribution Board with BS 3871 MCB's or BS 3036 Rewirable fuses, would you suggest to the client that the existing distribution board...
