Hi there can I describe an installation and I would love to hear some opinions as to weather the earthing is up to standard. Its quite a long run so I'm concerned about the difference between true earth and system earth!
Submain comes direct from meter cupboard in farmhouse through 100a main...
Okay, I know this question pops up a lot but I want to be really specific, and ask in the trainee bit for your thoughts.
I've done my first inspect & test assignment, and one of the questions is "show using the help of a diagram the earth fault loop path for an earth fault in the lighting...
Hiya all
So on a pme system you can either use the earth from the cu and essentially export pme to the tub. Not against the regs afaik.
Or tt the tub.
Is there any tests that can be done (like the 23k ohms test) that will give a definite answer as to what method to use?
For the people who...
Just checked the L-N loop at a fusebox and got a reading of 0.12ohms (great! :D), so going to call up and try to arrange to get a PME system put in. Anyway I was just going though 5.4 regs and didn't spot where (assuming it's in there) it says if it's ok to have both PME and TT earth connections...
Hi guys,

Hi All I would be interested to hear your opinions on this situation:
It's a property which used to have the electricity meter in the middle of the house, the consumer unit is still there and there is still a cut out with a 100A fuse in it, a neutral earth block and a small label that says it...
More experienced help needed please. Scenario is Mains intake and MET(PME) outside the building in cupboard with KMF's (80A fuse) feeding flats via 16mmT+E. 2 flats gas meters are in cupboard at mains with 10mm bonds. 1 flat has gas meter in flat with no 10mm bond. Also no 10mm bonds to water...
Hi as the title suggests,
I know of a Fuse Board, that has a 100mA RCD incoming However its not a TT system its a PME system, I've only been in the trade 2 years now so im still green, did it used to be the case that 100mA was the standard instead of 30mA protection for Domestic Dwellings...
Hi. I have a family member who requires a new CU. She still has a rewireable fuse box and still has an ELCB. So no RCD's. Her install is a deathtrap waiting to happen from an earth faulr point of view!
I replaced a socket on wall today and measured Zs. It was 5Ohms!!!!
Shocking. I checked...
Hi,
Had a little beer tokens job on way home today fitting a couple of smoke alarms. When I got there I noticed what looked to be a PME intake with no main earth going to it. Done a couple of Ze's and found the top connection in the photo was defunct, but the earth in the separate terminal...
I have a project to install 3 new TP distribution boards on a working commercial/industrial site.
The main incoming supply is 3phase PME.
The feed cables out to the new distribution boards will be a maximum of 40metres from the incoming supply and run in Swa cable (some above ground & some...
I was going to just add on to Voltz's thread but it seemed to come to a natural end but I had some questions.
1. A few experienced members say that you should not extend the (equipotential zone) EPZ of a PME system. Am I right in thinking that this is because of the possible potential between...
Hi,
New to the forum and looking for some guidance.
During an electrical test of a property it was found to have no earth connection other than to the incoming water and gas mains.
Western Power were called to the property to confirm that PME was available but no terminal existed within the...
Hi guys, I'm pretty new at testing and I started work a few months ago working on outdoor advertising units and bus shelters (please don't laugh)
Anyway I'm trying to figure out supply types for when we test installations, now the stuff I work on (50% of it) is fed from a service pillar on the...
I've just installed two 100A isolators in a farmbuilding and the nearby house. The earthing arrangements seemed unusual.
The power comes in overhead and a single cable drops into the main head. This has PME head and a label on the board stating that there is Protective Multiple Earthing. The...
I have some works at a small flat (4 properties). PME. Service head has been doubled up by DNO, so that supply cable for the second head exits the bottom and feeds the second.
I find a 6mm green/yellow conductor strung between the PME break-outs of the two heads. It looks like the unusual work...
