The supply to a 40 room apartment installation in Thailand has a 3 phase and neutral supply and no earth conductor.
All the wiring including CPC and equipotential bonding is being done to UK standards.
Rather than having a TT system, using earth electrodes in my case re-bar of the buildings...
Howdy folks.
I have been reading a thread on another forum about PME and lost neutrals and one of the comments was this:
Also:
IET Forums - "give PME the boot"
I can not see how losing a supply neutral would result in an over voltage.
Has any one got any ideas?
Thanks.
Hi can someone explain PME for me please, is every house suppose to have it, I worked on building sites and just recently started doing domestic, Iv done few jobs but was told some earthing needs upgrading so obv assumed 10mm for gas and water but was told to look for a pme block????
Need a little advice on this one.
I rewired a house last year, all sorted and signed off, but I was told I would be coming back as there was a new extension planned. Unfortunately the building contractor would only use their own electrician so I lost the extension work, no worries. The customer...
Laugh if you like, I am new to this, is a TN-S sytem classified as a PME system, also is it possible for domestic houses sharing the same supply (same street) to be a mix of TN-S and TN C-S
Why is it that when the DNO provide an earth at the head they fit a cover over the terminals that you cant get off unless you remove the cutout and cut the seals. Why cant they provide an earth block at the side of the head if you not supposed to access their terminal. They have supplied alot of...
Will be starting a job soon after my assessment which will involve a two storey extension and an office area, also attached garage needing basic power.
Went to look today and discuss requirements.
The incomer is PME with a combined lead from service head to meter, this looks like it may be 6...
Hi
Just investigating a tingle - on our own utility sink! Its a TNC-S system, all circuits check out, bonding to utilities new and good and checks out OK, check earth contuinity on all appliances. Tingle still there when all circuits de-energised for over half and hour. ZE = 0.20 but has a...
PME and exportng a supply to a metal container via a SWA.
This has probably been talked about before, but how can you TT the exported installation when you are in a very sandy area.
Can you just put notices up and rely on RCCB s for protection ?
Hi all.
A local caravan site has asked me to test their RCD's. I popped in to speak to them about what they wanted and had a quick nosey around with a view to returning and undertaking the work.
The 32 electric hook-ups are fed via a 3 phase system which splits into 3 circuits. Each...
Hi, new member here, I have aquestion obv on electrics. New connection to outbuilding, had a PME system installed, labelled like that by EON. Then Seimans metering installed the meter and an isolator. Now whilst I find an electrician, I had a CU installed. Do I now need to get EON back to break...
For anyone bored by the constant myths and rumours regarding this subject, have a read of this guide from the IEE on supplies to detached outbuildings.
It was published in 2005 but the important bits remain unchanged and might be of some help!

Hi,
I am concerned in the event of neutral faliure the CPC will take the installation load so should i TT the external garden lights from the PME of the house, or connect them into the CPC of the providing supply?
Just want to bounch this off others,
1980's house built in rural village, other houses in the village have PME supplies and test out with Ze of around 3.5. Did a quick test when I got there on a ring and getting Zs of 10.45 on further investigation theres no main earth so thought well is this...
if (for arguments sake)you're exporting PME with a swa submain-not converting to TT
can the 'main bond' be used as 'cpc' or should they be separate
should the main bond be at least minimum csa required and kept to less than 0.05ohms
thanks
Evening all,
I was talking to a colleague today who was saying that if he couldn't get a good enough Ze reading from a TT system he would convert it to a PME. Can he do this?? Sorry again if this is a really basic question but I for some reason thought this was down to the supplier eg EDF
Cheers
