Morning.
Recently went to a job with what is a glorified shed, although fully insulated plastered, water tight etc, with a db installed within the unit. Small ring main and four down lights. The SWA supplying the 'shed' running back to the garage, on a 40a mcb protected by a 63a 30ma rcd...
Have had a call from a regular customer about their RCD TRIPPING.
Strange thing is it has tripped every Monday between 6-6:30 am for the last month.
The property has recently had new kitchen appliances (all high end Neff)
Has also had the meter changed to a smart meter.
My initial thought...

Hi gents,
Tested a house and all faults rectified. Was asked by landlord to upgrade the fuse board to a 17th edition board and happily complied. On fitting the board I went on to carry out testing and then hit a brick wall when going live.
RCD tripped. so I isolated each circuit (only 4 and...
I understand that when carrying out RCD testing an RCD should trip within 300ms at 1x and 40ms at 5x but is it common that on occasions for the RCD to trip quicker at 1x than 5x. I never had it occur personally.
I am just looking at some old certs and on some circuits the RCD is tripping...
Hello, I understand there are other topic with similar problems but I thought I would start a topic with my specific problem.
The RCD in our fuse box trips random when a laptop is plugged in and the switch is turned on even before the laptop is turned on, this only happens randomly and not...
Testing some new cabinets today which had in them a PDU with a 30mA rcd upfront as main switch. ( We build among other stuff, communications cabinets for highways, railways, etc). First one tested tripped on 1/2 fault current. Tried another cab, same thing. Did a ramp test, (tester is Kewtech...
We recently rewired a property, which had off peak storage heaters also with a 24hr supply for instant heat off the ringmain, as wired before. We didnt have to rewire the off peak storage heaters, only replace the fuseboard.
When we reconnected the main 10mm cpc bond the earthing terminal...
Hi Guys
A Happy 2014 to you all.
I've recently had two calls to trace the cause of intermittent tripping in domestic installations, and failed miserably!
The latest - 4 way box feeding garage, utility room, garden shed. Customer reckons it sometimes trips when they switch the light on, but can...
I have been asked to investigate a tripping RCD for a family member. I haven't been out to view yet and have asked very few questions but the scenario sounds like an RCD as a main switch. The homeowner opens all MCB's and then closes one by one until the RCD trips, finding that the 'lights in...

i have recently finished a large domestic installation, which was put into service, after initial verification and all subsequent tests carried out with satisfactory results.

Hello Sparky's,
So today was one of my work experience days that I do once a week, our last visit/job was to a house that a builder had installed under floor heating prior to getting any help from any electrician in the new bathroom he just installed. I've seen this builder on a few jobs and...
Hi,
Lighting circuit trips the RCD.
took out all the lamps and it holds. Put any lamp back into any light on the circuit and it trips. All but one of the light fittings on the circuit are Class 1.
Any advice gratefully received

Hi,
As I understand, touching or cutting the earth core of a disconnected (via its MCB) circuit can cause an imbalance and an RCD trip – due to other working circuits connected to the same RCD bank.
So why doesn’t touching the earthed part of a working appliance (e.g. the chassis of...
Working on a tt installation with resistance reading in excess of 200 ohms.
MCBs are single pole, neutrals on common bar. Newly installed 'cheap' rcd is double pole.
Rcd is tripping, but not consistantly. Have isolated possible circuit fault is on, but cannot find any obvious reason for...
My friends rcd is tripping on all the circuits it supplies. If has been working fine for years. I believe it supplies a number of different rings/radials.
i am currently away and cannot get there until Monday so I am unable to do any tests at the moment.
He has switched off all mcbs on...
Ive installed an additional RCD onto an existing Wylex board that already had one RCD, however a breaker on the old RCD circuit is tripping the new RCD and for the life of me I cant figure out why. Anybody have any ideas?
Went to a job today to try and rectify a fault on a ring circuit.
I visited the property some time ago and noticed the main ring was not RCD protected on a 17th ed high integrity board that had been very recently installed. I assumed a fault was present. No paperwork...
I disconnected all...
