Section 411.3.3 says:
" In a,c. systems, additional protection by means of an RCD in accordance with Regulation 415.1 shall be provided for:
(i) socket-outlets with a rated current not exceeding 20 A that are tor use by ordinary persons and are intended
for general use, and

Morning Guys
I know that if a 100mA RCD is followed by a 30mA RCD, the 100mA needs to be S type.
If a 300mA RCD is followed by a 30mA RCD (Farm installation) does the 300mA need to be S Type?
Cheers
Pete
Well I have had my PV system in for a few months now and all seems to be working okay after my problems with the electricians installation, however maybe someone can answer a question I have now, having bathrooms refitted and trying to avoid the bonding cables by fitting an RCCB rather than...
I have a customer who wants an extractor fan in her bathroom. I visited and noted lack of main bonding to gas and no RCD protection for the property. Due to cost she does not want extra work done (yet). As the gas bonding is very straight forward (1 meter of 10mm and a clip) I would be happy to...
Which of the amendments to the 16th edition Regs made it mandatory for socket outlets to be protected by a 30mA RCD for all new work?
I've been very surprised this week to find on a pre-work check for a house built in 1995 that there is no RCD protection whatsover on the installation. Memera...
Spent hours today tracing a NE fault (IR=0.29Mohms) on ring main.
Unplugged everything I could and then split the ring down. Eventually narrowed it down to three double sockets which seem to be on a spur. Different colours at start and end of spur so no doubt a jb under the floor somewhere...
Hi guys
Wonder if you can help cause im baffled got call out to a house that i did some work at in kitchen a few weeks ago as rcd keeps tripping when plugging in the hoover
split load 17th cu think it is basics make ring main is on the right hand rcd however it is taking the left hand rcd...
Just a quick one...
RCDs on socket outlets - that was in the 16th, wasn't it?
So anything that's been done in harmonised colours should have had RCD fitted at the time, shouldn't it?
I'm thinking 16th was 2001, harmonised colours was 4/2004, no more old colours after 4/2006
Thanks,
Simon
Hi all,
Just a heads-up really - Sibert are now pleased to be able to represent Doepke products so if you have any requirements for Type A or Type B RCDs, garage CUs or MCBs etc then we can now support your requirements.
Regards
Andy
I have just read the document produced by SMA on the subject of type B RCDs with their TL inverters. Section 4 states: "All SMA inverters with transformer and all transformerless SMA inverters mentioned in the following are not capable of feeding DC residual currents to the grid due to the...
Hi all,
Not trying to push/promote sales etc, just a serious question really to try to gauge market demand.
Without getting into the discussions of whether you do or don't need an RCD device to protect the PV installation (quite happy to discuss off-line if people wish to), what is the...
Afternoon all,
I wonder if someone can help me out here. I need to run an electrical supply to my wooden shed - approx 10 metres from my house. I plan to continue the radial circuit from a socket in our dining room. The circuit currently has only 2x double sockets (which don't really get...
Hello all,
I have just installed new circuit for a friend from an existing install. The new circuit is fed via underground SWA (from an old building) to a new building. In the new building I have fitted a 2way CU with combined main switch/30mA RCD (new type RCD BS61009) and two MCBs (lights &...
In summary: every time I turn on my electric fan oven it trips the RCD in my consumer unit. Although it is already on it's own RCD switch everything trips, all the sockets throughout the house but the Cooker one is unaffected.
A similar thing appeared to happen with my Dishwasher and I...
Hi all,
I've tried searching but every time I hit the 'search' button, it takes me out of the forum!
Set up: 6-way consumer unit (changeover). 30mA rcd controlling 4 power (32+32+16+40) mcb's + 2 6a rcbo's for lighting.
I've done all the testing. Voltage 247v. Everything fine but....
Upon...
my supplier is telling me these are not available-is this true?
i doubt it:cool:
as the test button won't be fully operational using a 230v rcd
and am i right in saying they should be 10ma on 110v fixed wiring(when fitted)-due to the lower residual currents expected at 110v
these are...
I have several old RCDs. A couple of sockets in the garage and an old Powerbreaker adaptor. How do I tell if these are the old type which need to be replaced?
A caravan supply has a 30mA non delayed RCD and the caravan has the same. Is there a cheat so that the one in the caravan can be the one forced to trip when performing the tests. It is not practical to simply bypass the one the supply.
If we have a double pole RCD which is, let's say 30mA 80A, will it trip in an overload situation above 80A in a similar manner to an 80A incomer? Or is it just 'rated' at 80A in the same way a switch may be rated at 6A or whatever?
I'm sure it's a dumb question that I should know the answer to...
