i've recently installed a new Consumer unit at home and will be using it as my first niceic assessment. I'm getting an insulation resistance reading of 1.7 on a lighting circuit in the osg it says minimum reading of 1 is this going to be ok?
I've discovered what section of the circuit is giving...
hi did a IR on a shed board L-N was 0.11Mohms so took out the radial circiut and light circuit did them separately and was fine 299Mohms so why low when they are connected to the shed board????? dont do much testing so help be nice cheers
I bought a light changing LED floodlight on the web and it arrived today - as I'm slobbing around I thought I better take a look at it and read the instructions before I install it...
So this is the unit out of the box:
These are the "instructions" for the unit:
And these are the...
I have just purchased a transformer for some under cupboard strip LED's. The unit is CE marked. The ELV side of the transformer has 2 short flexes coming out of it with a CSA of 0.75mm². I was going to just extend these out to the 2 strips of LED lighting I am installing but after reading...
I've just got the Alphatek Tek837 clamp meter as it seemed a good price compared to others with the same features, does anyone have any experience with this meter, since i ordered it i've learnt it's been sold under different brand names, Metrel tek837, Alphatek tek837, Di log DL6404 and...
I have an annoying problem with my Chevy Camper.
When it is cold the starter turns nicely. When it is hot, the starter turns very very slowly and occasionally it will fire up. otherwise I have to leave it for ten minutes or so.
I fitted a new starter and a new heavy duty battery and new...

Hello all,
Hope you all enjoyed your bank holiday!
I have a question that i know someone can give me the answer to.
So to keep this short i basically have a lighting circuit with 3 street lights via a time clock.
Circuit goes >3 phase DB> 10amp C type Mcb > time clock > 1,2,3 street lights.
I...
Had a strange one today, would appreciate folks take on it. I'm probably missing something obvious!!
Installing some downlights via metal dimmer switch.
Earth loop impedance was 50 ohms at last light!, at switch it was about 1.5 ohms. Dimmer fully up, voltage at light around 230 . Bypass...
Hey! First time posting here :hurray:
ive been a sparky for 10 years working in mostly domestic and now I've decided to try going into another form of the industry. However I've realised that I'm not as upto scratch as I should be with certain things and would like to refresh myself. I've spent...
Good morning,
I was recently at a job and had a discussion with another Electrician regards a high Zs reading on a ring final circuit.
R1+R2 measured 1.68ohm
Ze 0.18
Tncs
This puts the circuit over the permitted zs. I begun seeking out the issue.
However the other electrican said...
Insulation resistance testing with electronic equipment between L-N connected together and earth.
Switch mode power supplies have EMC capacitors between L - N - E.
However, when you test for IR you are using DC. Capacitors block DC.
What is there in some electronic equipment that allows a...
Hello, I'm doing a course of electrician and soon i'm gone have my first 2 weeks of practise and i'm take 2 qualification 1 22-65 lvl 3 and second one is 23-92 inspection and tasting. If you can help me with some advise for a job wich i can start in my case. regards and sorry for my english.

Also installed 2 x L & G credit meters so owner can calculate/bill the down stairs which is...
I have a circuit of only approximately 8-9 metres from a 61009 type B 32A Rcbo to an oven & hob all run in m T&E and have got a Zs result on "No Trip" of 1.49 ohms which is not cool as I need sub 1.1 ohms to comply. Technically it's below 1667 ohms but still it's on a TN-S so efli should be well...
Hey all, going over some testing before my final assesment. i've heard a couple of times when testing a 3 phase supply using a single phase to earth test you double the reading as your Ze/Zs, so if you test L1-E=0.07 Zs=0.14. also what i have done until now is test all three Lines to earth and...
The circulation fan on my Beko oven works intermittently and gives a reading of 178 Ohms. I cant find a tech manual for beko oven fans so can someone tell me what the correct resistance reading should be.
Now that I'm a retired Electrician with nothing to do other than annoy Forum members with inane posts, and browse the net.
I came across some American videos about MICC installations, and having worked in the states on many occasions I found 1 vid rather interesting, a guy "Russ La Blance code...
When you do the continuity test on a ring final circuit and you have to connect L1 to N2 and vice versa, this assumes you know which L cable is the incoming or outgoing.
I understand that if you connect L1 to N1 and vice versa the ohm readings rise then fall as you go round the ring circuit...
Hello All,
I've been call to a small chapel as the power goes on and off once or twice a week.
Cable is a 50mm 4C fed from a 100A 6kA MCCB 50-60m away. 4pole RCD in Chapel.
Load on each phase is about 20-35A when the A/C kicks in so MCCB and cable OK for that.
IR at 500V Fluke 1653B. Results...
