Hi all,
In my house I have a ring main which covers two floors, from which I have created two spurs with 2.5mm cable.
I am drawing 3000W on each spur and on the ring sockets probably around 500w making a total of 6500w.
Do you think this is dangerous as it is exceeding the 24A rating on 2.5mm...
I am happy with calculating current carrying capacity for straight runs of cable. I am not to sure how the imact of a ring effects the cable calcs? Its hard to see what the possible loads might be. As of this do you take the center point and use maximum demand?
So for example on a 35 meter ring...
hi just a couple of questions really, i am looking to put a socket on the wall for my tv and need to extend the ring circuit but is it ok to use new cable for a couple of legs of the ring circuit with the rest of the circuit being old existing cable or does the whole circuit need to be replaced...
hello and thanks again for all your answers got another question for yous
ok im trying to calculate design current for a ring
if it was a shower unit say 7.5kw at 230 volts i would do 7500 / 230 = 32.6 amp this i no how to do
cant think how you would do it for ring or even if you...
HI all.. Some advice please if possible, i did see a post on here which related to this a few days ago when i first joined, i cant seem to find it now. ON testing earth continuity on a upstairs ring circuit i get zilch, nothing, zero!!! Both L's are good and come back with the same reading for...
I came accross a ring circuit that was split into two ring circuits up and down stairs.
All connections are under floor boards and accessible because floor board above each connector is not nailed down, each joint is mentioned in red pen on the floor board. There are joints with screw...
Hello All
This will be my first post for a bit of direction sincejoining the forum a while ago, and this issue has us a bit baffled. It is possible me and my mate have overlooked something really daft & obvious! Anyway here it is..
Yesterday we were doing a periodic on my mates flat which is...
Just a quick question I was testing my ring circuit the other day from the first socket off the consumer unit testing the end to end results of the cpc's. The first result I got was lowest, then when I went around all the sockets in sequence they got higher. The highest result was when I did the...
Hi, I am looking for some opinions before I get an electrician in so that I am a bit more clued up on the situation.
We have recently moved to a house built in the 60s, it was meant to have had a partial rewire and has had a modern CU fitted. It is a 3 bedroom house on 2 floors and from the CU...
Hi there,
Whats the best way to convert a Ring Circuit which feeds all the sockets in the house, to 2 Radial Circuits.
Its an 1960s house so only has one ring circuit. Would like to know the easiest way of doing this without lifting floorboards if possible. Im unsure where the 2 legs of the...
Hi all, I did a PIR yesterday at a largeish house (150m2). there is only 1 ring final circuit for all house sockets. Zs was 1.25ohms, vs 1.16 permitted maximum value. there is an RCD so additional protection in theory although the RCD did not disconnect at 5x 30 ma test. I will obviously...
Hello,
I am about to conduct my first initial verification and i have spent all weekend reviewing how to do the recommended tests. However I have a question regarding final ring circuit test.
1- is this only for a ring main circuit with outgoing line and incoming line?
2- if the answer is...
Still a relatively inexperienced so sorry if these seem obvious/dumb questions.
I wanted to spur a double socket next to an existing double socket in a bedroom in my own house on the first floor, sounded like a good idea!
EDIT: Isolated the circuit 1st!!
My first worry.
I loosen the socket...
HI all
I need some advice and guidance on a lower then expected IR on a New ring final circuit
when carrying out testing continuity was correct and so to the IR testing
I tested L-N >299 perfect
L-Cpc >299
N-Cpc > anywhere from 40M/ohms to 299
so as its new rewire I...
Found myself in a bit of a predicament
Carrying out a PIR in a factory
Testing an existing ring circuit in an industrial distribution board which must be nigh on 35 - 40 years old, asbestos flash guards and all!
The problem with that the DB does not have cpc terminals, and all the cpc's are...
Hi
After a bit of advice:
I am just doing a bit of home testing prior to starting my 2391 later this month, but have come across a couple of strange results. Measured the R1 and got 0.98, also got the same for the Rn so not a bad start, but got 1.95 for the R2. I tested it a few times as I...
House has 3 rings circuits, 3 lighting circuits, 3 cooker circuits and 1 shower circuit. Except for one ring circuit everything tests out ok.
The house in on a 12 way MCB board that is in very good condition.
One ring circuit on a 32A MCB has a problem on all seven double sockets and one...
